I worked for a computer hardware company in the early 90's. I just did the parts ordering and stores.
Anyway, one day an engineer asked me to help out. A big job was on that day. He needed a few guys for this one.
We went to a customers location. In an air-conditioned room were several large Wang machines (remember Wang?). My company had installed these things in the mid-80's but they were obsolete by 1994. We started to remove one thing which was about 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide. Very much like a large modern refrigerator. I asked what this was. It was a hard drive. Only a hard drive. Capacity? 16mb!! 16mb!! Just last week I saw an advert for a USB drive with a capacity of 4 gigabyte. It was smaller than my thumb. |
