Hi:
I have just been offered a teaching position in Seognam. I will be teaching at a brand new global english village run by Educhosun. The school is new so there probably won't be any info about it but i was wondering if anyone had heard anything about Educhosun. Also, does anyone know anything about Seognam? I am really not sure what to expect so would appeciate any advice. I was also told it is a satellite city of Seoul and that it is possible to get back and forth from Seoul by metro. Does anyone know if this is actually possible?
Thanks.

Yes, Seongnam is South/Southwest of Seoul. You can take a the subway and be to Kangnam, Seoul in under 30 minutes. It is an older town area, as opposed to the suburb of Bundang, which is a bit further out in the same direction and mostly new. Seongnam ain't bad.

You will also have some buses you can hop into Seoul

I've been working Songnam for 8 years (living here for 5 of them) and like it a lot. The air is cleaner, life is a tad slower, your near lots of parks and hiking, as well as being a stone's throw from the Seoul border. It's on the subway line and is a bedroom community with lots of buses running into Seoul. Ditto on being able to be in Kangnam in 30 minutes on the subway. One thing about Songnam is that it's long -- meaning north to south. 'Old' Songnam is to the north (Pokchung to Moran subway stops) and Bundang is everything after that. Bundang is actually a 'gu' of Songnam City. Ditto also Songnam proper having a much different flavor than Bundang. Bundang is about 10 years old and a relatively fantastic place to live or work and Songnam is 30 years old and a relatively interesting place to live and work (Songnam was created during by Park Chung Hee in the '70s when he began to develop Kangnam -- the people displaced by Kangnam development were put in Songnam, so historically speaking, it's rather disenfranchised). The Korean gov't has different classifications for cities and Songnam just got upgraded. This means that 'old' Songnam is becoming more like 'new' Songnam (Bundang) with the creation of more green spaces. It's nice. I haven't heard of Educhosun, but my two cents is that you could do a lot worse than Songnam. Best of luck.

Bundang is in Seongnam city. They are not seperate. If you live in bundang you are in Seongnam. OP it really depends on what area your school is in. Try to find a more specific area. That will help us tell you what the area is like. Some are a bit ghetto, while others are really nice.
