We are thinking of taking the ferry to Russia for part of Chesok. Has anyone done this before, advice, hints, tips, etc. Let me know or send me a link to past discussions, thanks! |

There is only one ferry from South Korea to Russia. It is called the Dongchun Ferry and it goes from Sokcho to Zarubino (near Vladivostok).
www.dongchunferry.co.kr
It operates once a week (sometimes more often). But sailings are often delayed or cancelled. The trip takes over 30 hours in each direction and while passengers are taken, it is mostly a cargo ship.
So it is not really suitable for someone who only has a few short days to go there and back.
There are however several 2-hour flights from Seoul to places like: Vladivostok, Khabarovsk and Sakhalin Island. Fares to these three places start at around 600,000, although absurd prices may be asked during chuseok.
Xanadu Travel in Itaewon (www.xanadu.co.kr) also have a nice Chuseok package going to Mongolia and Russia (Lake Baikal) for 1 week in October. It is a little over-priced, but it would sure be a nice trip. |
