Anyone catch the mock Larry King interview with Will Ferrel on CNN? It was quite funny. Ferrel plays a NASCAR driver. I think the set up is he's never won a race but he's come in #2 more than any other NASCAR driver in history. His sponsor is Wonder Bread. He has two boy, who he named after his favorite tv characters: Walker and Texas Ranger.
They kept showing these hilarious clips from the movie. I wonder, however, if they ended up just showing all the good jokes. Wonder if it will come to Korea. About a billion jokes would just fly over the heads of the locals. |

| Are many Koreans (or anyone else outside of the U.S. South) familiar with NASCAR? I always thought that NASCAR was a regional phenomenon. |

I saw the King spoof as well. Ferrell is Ricky Bobby, and his wing man Cal is the one who's always coming in second.

I guess the parody paid off, as the spoof on NASCAR was number one at the box office last week.
And what's with Larry King nowadays? The comedy of Ferrell and Kathy Griffin on consecutive nights, right in the middle of a weeks worth of Middle East bombing coverage. Does the man know any middle ground? |

I used to think only Southerners liked NASCA,R but it's actually quite popular in the North now! Yeah, I'm amazed too! |

"TV ratings 2nd only to the NFL" Why, I have no idea.
Ricky Bobby(Wil Ferrel) running around thinking he is on fire "Help me Jesus, Jewish guy, Tom Cruise."

That was hilarious:
KING: If you believe that it was true. You prayed though to Tom Cruise's God.
FERRELL: Yes, I did. I did, Larry, and I'm not ashamed of that because Tom's God is out there somewhere in a spaceship and anyone who flies a spaceship into, you know, high speed transportation, I mean as soon as -- as I said that prayer the invisible fire went away.
I like that MI-III failed at the box office and suddenly Tom Cruise is fair game. |

| What's up with these stupid sports movies Hollywood is churning out lately? There must be a redneckization of America going on these days. My hometown newspaper even devotes a whole page to NASCAR every week. What a waste! America continues to get sadder everyday. |

LOS ANGELES -- Christian film reviewer Ted Baehr is no fan of this past weekend's top movie at the box office.
The Movieguide.org publisher said Will Ferrell's "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" is "a racist, bigoted work that ridicules the Bible Belt, Southern white men, Christianity, Jesus Christ, the family, and American masculinity."
Baehr said the lead character's mocking prayer to baby Jesus shows anti-Christian bigotry and wonders why Hollywood isn't treating Will Ferrell like it's treated Mel Gibson, who has apologized for his anti-Semitic outburst.
"Don't count on Hollywood (or the news media, for that matter) to condemn and denounce Will Ferrell and his partner, writer and director Adam McKay. And, don't expect any self-righteous liberals to get on their soapbox and say that they will never work with Farrell or McKay, or see one of their movies," Baehr said in his review.
He said that "Talladega Nights" is one of the most "blasphemous, politically correct major movies ever released by a major Hollywood studio."
He continued his rant, saying that Hollywood and the mainstream media stood by silently while Dan Brown and Ron Howard mocked Christian beliefs and Roman Catholic leaders in "The Da Vinci Code" and when Martin Scorsese claimed in "The Last Temptation of Christ" that Jesus was a "mixed-up" and "weak-minded" wimp.
On its Web site, Movieguide describes itself as:
..."a ministry dedicated to redeeming the values of the mass media according to biblical principles, by influencing entertainment industry executives and helping families make wise media choices.
"Talladega Nights" tells the tale of Ricky Bobby, a man who was born when his Daddy was racing his Ma to the hospital and got so carried away by speed that a quick slam on the brakes is all it took to pop little Ricky out, according to TheMilwaukeeChannel.com reviewer Deb Scott. His Daddy takes a powder shortly after he is born, and as a result, Ricky grows up with a hero worship complex and the need for speed.
An emergency at a racetrack where he works pushes Ricky behind the wheel of a NASCAR vehicle in the middle of a race and everything just clicks, including a phrase his drunken Daddy once said to him -- "If you ain't first, you're last." So begins the raucous rise and fall of Ricky Bobby.
Meanwhile, actor John C. Reilly said he had no idea NASCAR was so popular until he made "Talladega Nights."
He was surprised to hear that some fans camp out for days before a race and turn it into an event. Reilly used to wonder why anyone would watch cars race in a circle, but now he said he knows "there's so much more going on than that."

| Here's a question: are there any websites or something that would tell you if a movie *might* open in Korea? 40 Year Old Virgin opened here, and didn't Wedding Crashers? It seems like we have an outside shot of seeing this movie in a few months. Especially since it's making a lot of money in America. |

IMDB, sadly, seems to list when the movie opens in nearly every country on earth except Korea. Why should I be surprised? I think that Seoul Scene magazine lists up coming movies. |

Maybe Korea doesn't want to show a hillbilly NASCAR movie. I highly doubt most Koreans are into NASCAR, especially Seoullites. Maybe the bumpkins are though... |

Do you have to like NASCAR to want to see this movie?
I thought the entire theme was making fun of NASCAR and its fans?
Am I wrong? |
