If You had to choose between
A) living in a comfortable city or town with a job that's JUST okay
OR
B) living in an uncomfortable city or town with a job you love
Which would you choose?
I got the idea for this poll when I was comparing my job prospects between Montreal & Toronto. Can you guess which city is A and which is B? |

I opted for the good job, bad city. I interpreted bad city as bad in terms of options and activities available.
I go through phases related to where I enjoy living. I grew up in a smallish city, but had the urge to live in the big city for my university years; there are just so many opportunities of all types (professional, social, etc.) in a big city. I spent many years studying and working in the fourth largest city in the U.S., but then later moved back to my hometown, and the surrounding countryside; the countryside is the best place to live a relaxed life.
I liked the downsizing of my environment at that time. But after a few years, I got the urge to live back someplace fast-paced. Now after several years in a big city again, I'm looking to move to someplace a bit simpler for a few years, and hopefully the job will be good. |

| i opted for the ok job and comfortable city. i lived in a city (las vegas) where i dreaded it for the 11 years i lived there (high school and college, etc.). i hated it, because it just made me feel trapped. but, the thing it did give me was more respect for cities with varieties of things to do, not just one sided cities where only like one or two things drew you to a place. |

OK~even lame job in a good city.
Can always trudge through a crappy work day,
if I know I'm going to enjoy the evening/night.
I'm an optimist. A little quality free-time outweighs a shart job.
There's always weekends to recover. |

In Korea, B, because I can travel elsewhere on weekends quickly and cheaply (I do!). Back in Canada, A, especially if it's a place to settle down in.

Obviously Montreal is A and Toronto is B. I've lived in each and Montreal was awesome to live in, with plenty of great restaurants, street culture, parks, a sense of real life and magic, whereas Toronto had the typical big city dreariness, and is best visited occasionally for specific reasons, in and out. |

Option 2 as you can travel to other locales but a just "ok" job stays with you....
As for Montreal vs Toronto....it is a no brainer....
Montreal is A. (good city, avg job)
Toronto is B. (uncomfortable city (?), good job).
However, in that scenario I would choose Montreal because well it is just a better city to live in and travel in Canada is not as easy as it is in Korea (question of distance + expense).
I also lived in Montreal and TO (did some of my uni studies in MTL). |
