Hello everyone. I wanted to find out some information about a city in Seoul. I will be in Korea in a few weeks and I will be living at a town called Sillim-dong. Is this a good town? What other cities are around there? Any tourist attractions near here?

I appreciate it, if someone can give me some information on this city.

Haha.

I think, if this isn't a joke, you will find it easier to wrote that out as "Sillim-Dong". Just a run of the mill neighborhood in Seoul. If your employer spelled it out like that, I bet you're in for a ride with those turkeys.

If I remember anything specific about the hood, I will post back. But you will probably have more luck if you change the subject of the post and wait for some more informed members.

I have a k-friend that lives there. It's just a standard neighbourhood...decently located to other areas that may be less boring.

99% of the hoods in Seoul are run of the mill, regular hoods. The only ones that differ are the ones around the business or entertainment centers or universities. The other dongs are pretty much all the same.

I live in Sillimbon-dong. There are 13 dongs in all in the neighborhood. There are plenty of good, cheap Korean restaurants in the neighborhood and even a few Western Restaurants. You can find good markets on most of the back roads, so you can get all the fresh fruits and veggies that are in season (however, you may want to bring some veggie wash from home). There are movie theaters and well, really just about anything you may need. It is located off the bottom of the green subway line, just 4 stops west Sadang where the line crosses with the light blue line.

I think you will find it is a good neighborhood. You arent more than about 14 stops from anywhere in the city, so it makes it easy to get around. If you like to hike then there is even a nice park right behind Seoul National University that offers some nice trails.

Sillim from what I've seen has areas of nightlife which tend away from trendy and toward sleazy. Probably not the whole area is like that, but it is present.

There was something on the Snitch Board about it.

Shillim's pretty good, as far as I know. It's got a few more bars and things to do than your average subway stop. Isn't Led Zeppelin bar there? I also remember back when I'd only been in Seoul a month my friend took more down some street near the subway in Shillim and there were a ton of wh*rehouses with the girls in the windows and the whole bit.

ah...you know you've been in Korea for a while when "being a pretty good neighborhood" and "having a ton of wh*rehouses" are not mutually exclusive concepts.

You can spell it as Sillim or Shillim. Seems to me many places use the "sh" spelling. It's close to Boramae Park, which is a good place to hang out. They have nice basketball courts, an x-games type park, and a jogging track there.
There are a lot of bars near there, especially near the station. Just be careful at night because there are also a ton of room parlors and love motels in the area.
I lived there for a year, and it isn't too bad. It's on line #2 and it's also close to Sindaebang Samgori Station (line #7).

I use to live in Sillim-dong.. actually I lived across the street from Boramae Park.. its a nice place.

They had a thread on skyscraper forums on Boramae Park area.. great little area.

Like others said about Sillim-dong.. its right about in the middle of everything.. took me 20-25 minutes by subway to get to Gangnang going to one direction, the HongDae/Shinchon area 20-25 minutes by subway the other direction.. or go straight north to the Itaewon area (20-25 minutes) by bus.

The area has lots of little bars and restaurants.. mostly frequented by Koreans.. seldom saw many foreigners around - too easy to just go to the other areas and made more sense.

Led Zeppelin Bar is also there.. one of the more enjoyable bars to go to I found.. really laid-back and not many foreigners.. but they did have western music, live bands playing western music, and just a good atmosphere. I think if many foreigners went there, it would be ruined. But the area isn't all that great to warrant many foreigners compared to the other areas of Seoul - so maybe it will be saved afterall.

Sillim isnt a bad area. My partner lived there (and so did i for most of the year due to filthy damn flatmates!!). Its pretty central for sub travel. Its got loads of restaurants, a multiplex, Lotte mart, the park, lots of uni students live there but its not a foreigner hangout really.
But as has been said, theres not really too much to distinguish it from a lot of other average-to-good areas.

Wow, great info. Thanks everyone for posting your knowledge. It sounds like I will like the city.

One more questions...

Anybody know the best way to get to the city from the Incheon airport... taxi, bus?
