Your thoughts and opinions?
I have been playing Quake 4. It isn't too bad; there are a lot of pro's on there. I much prefer playing F.E.A.R. online lately. More balanced and a little more real in respect to enviornments.

Many disappointments lately.
FEAR was ok....PREY was a letdown in that the devs ran out of ideas about 2/3 of the way through the game and resorted to pedantic level design, repetitive monsters (just more of them) and the story just got silly.
SWAT 4 expansion was good, but really difficult...the team kept getting knocked off early.
I still go back to Quake 3 and Q3:Team Arena for a real blast. It never seems to get old.
The Godfather was really fun, but too similar to Mafia meets GTA.
HL2: Lost coast is a winner, as is Quake 4 and for what it is, Doom 3 expansion. Spinter Cell: Chaos Theory is cool, except for the Starforce protection scheme, and a bit short. Replay on that game is high though...try to "ghost" it! |

There's a Quake3 god right here
I've been installing Q3 at the PC Bang making all sorts of noises with everyone watching (sadly my opponent is a nightmare bot because nobody wants to play). |

I hated Q3, I'm not much into online multiplay. Q4 was a complete redemption of the series for me. |

In all honesty, Quake 4 is ....at most....okay. F.E.A.R. is a bit more realistic (as i said before) and more balanced. I prefer this over Quake 4 anyday. |

Well, glad you liked FEAR so much, good for you.
But..
Graphics, textures, physics, sure- FEAR is way out ahead.
But gameplay, level design, story.. I found it disappointing.
And in those areas Q4 shined.
As I said I didn't like q3 but I should have clarified why- I want the whole package when I shell out my money for a game, and q3 was nothing but FPS. There was no plot, no storyline. That's fine for some people, but it just didn't cut it with me. And while the graphics were better, in terms of playability, I found it a step backward from the earlier Unreal Tournament.
So given all of the above I still find that far cry, HL2, and HL 2 episode one are better fpses than anything else out right now (although I haven't played Prey past the demo).
I found Ghost Recon and R6 Athena Sword good but they're not exactly FPS and not everyone's cup of tea. |

I have been checking out some game boards in hopes that a MOD will come out for Quake 4 enabling bots to run around in the multiplayer feature.
hehehhe...that and the grappling hook
Yeah..I would be on Quake 4 a lot more. |

What?
Q3 wasn't suppose to have a storyline or plot. Its a sports FPS, a battle of one on one or team vs team. Its a lot like what counterstrike became famous for since you create your own plot, except I like it a whole lot better than CS because the game involves so much skills and planning. |

I know, and that's why I didn't like it. And I found the variety and inventiveness in Unreal Tournment better. When q3 came out, I tried with friends for a bit but we all said 'meh' and went back to UT. If you liked Q3 for what it was that's fine, I hear they eventually got around to adding the sorts of games that UT already had, so I'm sure I missed a lot of stuff later. But the initial Q3 release, well, it didn't give me any incentive to go back and see what was up with Q3 arena, for example. |

I think we just like different "companies".
I've tried UT and didn't really like the physics or the overused of bright neon green, yellow, white lights flashing here and there. Q3 had the kind of rawness that not many people liked I guess (some scenes looked like they came from Q2).
They added some packs which didn't really make much difference (only added some variety like rocket arena and different maps), the core of the game remained the same.
Ever seen the huge number of maps created for Q3? It was that popular, and that was before people heard of the name fata1ity. |

Quake 3 and Team Arena are pure adrenaline. Fast and furious - if you stop moving, your history. The sounds, the feel, the grainy graphics...unparalleled. Who gets tired of dishing out some "Humiliation" or "Denied"? Great stuff.
It's funny how nobody seems to listen to Id when they explicitly say what a game will be. With Doom 3, they said it would be Doom, but more of it and it would look incredible, and indeed, it was all that. With Q3, they said they were making a multiplayer fragfest, and that's all it is. Yet people are always wondering why the games aren't more...
Quake 4 owns as well. A great story and it doesn't seem like the devs got bored near the end, as in PREY.
I still play UT as well, but it's more of a paced game - not so hairy and a bit more 'controlled' and far less intense overall. |

I think some people were expecting ID to follow suit to the array of other FPS that were sprouting left and right offering various gameplay and designs.
I have not found a FPS quite like Q3. It is definitely one of the classics. |

Right. Forgot about that one.
The war genre has been done to death over the last couple of years. Call of Duty, Medal of Honour, Brothers in Arms and all their expansions...ugh.
Battlefield 2 was largely a multiplayer game, right? |
