I like cigarettes, tobacco and nicotine - therefore I smoke. |

I enjoy paying the taxes that others would have to pay were I to stop. |

Smoked for years until I quit for good. Sometimes, even a year later, I get the strong urge for a cigarette. Remembering just how damn difficult it was to quit is the only reason I don't break down and buy a pack. Nothin' quite like the feel of nicotine hitting the bloodstream. |

My father's been a chain smoker since the early days of WWII and he's still as healthy and fit at age 75 as ever.
But I grew up around the smoke, coughing and waving my hands at the stench, loooong before any peer pressure to look cool. I never liked it and knew I'd never become a smoker.
Why does he do it? Well, back in the old days, nearly all guys of his generation did it. And as he says, the nicotine and habit is stuck with him for life. My father's side of the family, Hungarian bluecollar and farm workers, all live into their nineties, genetics I guess, but he swears it's the apricot brandy, paprika and green peppers.
My mother's side has lung cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and premature balding. Damn the English! |

it's a disgusting habit, and stupid. but i just can't stop. i wish i could.
they bring comfort. every ciggie is like a little friend. i like smoking...it makes me relaxed, and happy. and i guess my body is addicted and all that, as they say.
but i find myself feeling uncomfortable around non-smokers, 'cause i know they won't like it. uncomfortable that i smoke, i mean, not that they don't. and i have to go home in 4 months, and my family won't speak to me if i smoke. plus, a pack of ciggies in canada is $50 er something.
i wish i didn't smoke. but i do. |

The only time I ever smoke cigarettes is right after sex.
Of course then it's a whole carton.
I wonder if that's how "shag tobacco" got its name. |

I tried smoking but it seems I have a strange reaction to cigaretes. I don't seem to get the effect of nicotine, also it makes me horribly sick, if I smoke I vomit. If I am drinking the vomiting seems to be avoided. |

Makes me happy for a minute or two by giving me a reason to get out of the building and away from intolerant folk ... every person I have met who has made disparaging comments whenever I lit up is someone who is completely oblivious to the 2 dozen other things in their own appearance and behavior that cause me annoyance.
Do I tell them of every single instance of these annoyances? No, I do not. I do not have time in my day ... the only advantage I can see in not smoking is that it frees up a lot of time people can spend complaining about other people. Me, I'd rather just take a few minutes here and there and enjoy myself.
Go ahead, tell me I'm wrong. |

We all feel that way in the beginning.
It's a matter of pushing through.
Why not give it another go? |
