I am heading to Korea soon for a one year contract with a hagwon in central Seoul. I only plan on staying for a year and would like to keep myself busy while im there and make the most of my time.
Some Questions:
1: Weekend and day trips? What are the best places to go? I like beaches, waterfalls, photography.
2: What are some quick and easy options for getting out of the city for the day?
3: Best Korean Restaurant/s ( cheap but good food).
4: Best Bars or place to meet other foreigners? My school only has 1 other foreign teacher. Im assuming I may want more than one friend.
5: Best bar for singles?
6: Best clubs ( house/dance music)?
I lived in Osaka for 2 1/2 years and I know after that amount of time I knew a lot about the city and the best places to go. So I was hoping some of you could shed some light on the subject for me and maybe save me a little bit of the leg work.
Thanks in advance. |

The best beaches are on the East coast...or Southern coast. Lots of caves to tour through out near Gangnueng, Samcheok and Taebaek...mountains to climb...thrilling views and waterfalls....about 3 hours by bus or 6 hours by train....train is more picturesque(once )
2: What are some quick and easy options for getting out of the city for the day?
Busses and trains go everywhere at all times, cheap, fast, and efficient(if scarier than hell at times)
3: Best Korean Restaurant/s ( cheap but good food).
Almost any Korean restaurant will have great food....its all cheap(pricewise) look around and try many...you will figure out your favorites in short time
4: Best Bars or place to meet other foreigners? My school only has 1 other foreign teacher. Im assuming I may want more than one friend.
Cant swing a cat without hitting foreigners in Seoul(if you could find a cat that is).....ask around on Daves for people to meet up with. There is an over 40 club that meets monthly for dinner...depending where you are there will be dozens if not hundreds of foreigners nearby. BUT Itaewon is still foreigner central!
5: Best bar for singles?
Ask around....there are thousands
6: Best clubs ( house/dance music)?

Thanks for the advice grotto. Im sure these questions have been asked before but it always good to ask them again. Those ideas should keep me busy for a while. Just hope its still warm enough for the beaches by he time I get there.

| Go to a tourist information center or information center at one of the major palaces (like Gyeongbokgung). Get info in English or Korean. They have an "Escort Seoul" map that is great, and a touristy guide called "Seoul's Best 100." They are a good introduction to the city. |
