This one is my favorite:
| Quote: |
| Andy usually prefers to answer essay questions with a simple "I don't know." Andy is smart and can achieve a lot. His spoken English is very good. When it comes to essay writing, he seems to prefer to do the absolute minimum. He shows no interest in learning in class or from his mistakes. I have to constantly work to get him to pay attention in class. It is an effort even to get him to be quiet. He brings food to class and gives his full attention to the food he's eating and none to the lessons being offered. Andy is more interested in discovering what is at the bottom of his potato chip bag than learning about the errors he's made and how to correct them. When Andy is done eating he then occupies his time making random noises or bothering the other students. |
I doubt the Korean teachers ever translated that in full for his parents but it felt good to write. |

That student would last two minutes in my class.
It is more damaging to you as a teacher than to him as a student.
Think about it.
Seriously. |

OMFG! I had Andy as a student last year! I took his bag of squid flavored chips away, he cried, mother complained, I was blamed. But seriously, that was hysterical.
Here's mine:
"Dong-Young must make a greater effort to focus on class and not be disruptive by fondling other students and giving into flatulence."
Seriously, there wasn't enough room to get him to sit alone so I had him up in the front of the classroom with me. |

Ok, in fairness, if I am going to jump on someones thread with a disparaging comment, I should at least also participate.
I try to find something positive to say about every student. But alas, the best I could come up with for one student was, "He is a student." |

I had this walking ADD commercial of a kid in my class who would just run around screaming, hitting, throwing things, etc. I had no support as my partner teacher said he wasn't a problem for her, and my supervisor told me it would be embarassing to talk to the parents about the problem. The other kids would beg me everyday to kick him out so they could actually learn (and not be in fear of physical harm). But I guess Hakwon logic is that its better to keep one misfit and lose 5 good kids than to deal with the situation.
Anyway, here's what I wrote one month:
Xkid has completely gone beyond my expectations for his misbehavior and disruptiveness. However, all is not lost. Xkid has a firm grasp of words such as 'sit', 'be quiet', 'put that down', 'stop hitting him/her', 'what's wrong with you?', 'calm down' and 'go pick up what you just thew'. He has become so used to being punished that he is well prepared for his sordid future as an adult. He has also forced the other students in the class to work on their debating skills in their attempts to get him removed from our class.
I may have taken some artistic liberties with the comment here in this forum, but it is true to the tone of the original. Probably best for all, no one really understood it but me. |

I have a tolerance level that they kind of suss out and figure out eventually they can keep it to a dull roar and not trip my rage. But trust me, I've kicked this kid out many times for the problems in the report card. |

Being told to keep comments positive despite some students being useless, I've got a few stock phrases to fill in the 4 or 5 sentences.
"has a lot of potential"
"seems to enjoy having fun"
(sometimes can be stretched into "appears to enjoying participating in numerous activities that allow him a chance to freely express his personality in the classroom")
"is an interesting student"
"has the ability to do well when interested in the lesson and focused on the material"
"has a lot of energy"
"is a very active student"
and so on |
