Hi again,

Do such a thing as budget airfares exist flying out of Korea? I've been blown away by the sky-high prices I've been quoted. Eventually found a Korean Air flight to Shanghai for 245,000w (ex. tax) which I was going to take but I'm trying to work out a visa problem (see other post). If I'm unable to obtain a Chinese visa, or if I choose not to take this flight, does anyone know of a cheap/reasonable travel agent/website (in English).

I'm open to anywhere really? China seemed the most obvious and culturally stimulating choice, however I'm questioning if I want that at the moment? After 5 months traveling before starting my job and 4 months into it I'm knackered and quite fancy a more relaxing trip. Was thinking the Philippines or Indonesia? All the flights I've searched for are 500,000w upwards though.

Any advice?

OK.. as you are a fellow Brit I am going to help you here.

Want to relax a bit but doesn't want to pay big bucks/pounds, try Yan-tai in China. It's just opposite Qingdao and is about an hour or so's plane ride away. It's on the coast, so you will get your sea and your sun and a bit of culture, too. Unlike Qingdao, which is flooded with Koreans, Yan-tai is relatively unknown.

Asiana seems to have some pretty good deals right now.

Let me find you the link.

Here it is:

http://211.233.64.190/airtel_eng/airtelv2/airtel/list/hotel_list.asp?natser=4&cityser=48&cityser2=1

I kow it says available until the end of June, but we have been able to reserve things for our trip last week, although we didn't go through with it because we decided to go to Taiwan instead.

Anyway, HTH.

I'm in the same boat / plane as you. OP

Some research found a Travel agent website in Korean

www.whypaymore.co.kr

if you hunt through it, you might find the 'English' button. The hangul looks vaguely like 'ogoi'.

A quick google found this (May 2006):

Quote:
"I would have said 'Kangsan' (another budget travel agent) while Tina was still around. They aren't so pleasant to do business with anymore. I found tickets to LA for $700 to fly home this summer. I went through www.whypaymore.co.kr

The site is in Korean, but if you call their center they'll help you out in English. 02-318-8585
Hope they are as helpful for you as they were for me. Jen"

Looks like they don't have an English version.
