Anyone know how long it takes a wasp to die from starvation? I came home tonight and found one in my apartment. I have a bee sting allergy, see, so if the little bugger stings me that could be the end of Tiberious aka Sparkles.
I sprayed it with Raid (though I don't think I got a direct hit) and managed to lock it in my TV room. There goes my plan to watch a DVD tonight, I guess. How long before it gives up the ghost, you think?

I couldn't find anything about death by starvation, but I did find this:
"In social wasps, workers (sterile females) have an average lifespan of 12-22 days, drones (fertile males) have a slightly longer lifespan than workers."
Hope that helps.

I hate the little varmints. I don't have an allergy to them, but have found them to be totally malevolent (I have no problem with honey bees--my dad used to raise those). The large ones in Korea (roughly the size of a B-52 bomber) I believe are the same variety as the killer wasps in Japan (saw a show on them and they looked the same). You step on them, but their armor plating often saves them from the first stomp. They also seem to handle bug spray well, unless directly hit with it. Still, you might like to try and fog that room; it might work.

Sometime this evening I will have to open the door in order to turn off the light, which I left on. Because conserving energy is bigger than one man.
Wish me luck.

I saw a hornet a month and a half ago that was the size of my thumb, no lie.
This bugger is considerably smaller and looks like this:
Anyway, the f-er can't survive more than a day without nourishment, can it?

Why not just get geared up with gloves, makeshift ajumma towel mask, sunglasses, skull cap, boots, etc and go after the filthy little bugger? I mean, you are about 7,827 times bigger that it is. Should be a short war. So, c'mon, quit being a sissy and get on with it. We've all gotta go sometime. |

No, I'm really allergic. I've had so many needles in my life that the idea of a sting does little to scare me; but the thought of dying makes me a little afraid, for who will continue my legacy of self-centered Dave's posts when I'm gone?

Yeah, I've seen those smaller ones all over the place this summer. They don't seem to be really aggressive, but I still keep my distance (and kill all who have the temerity to show their bug eyes in my place).
Although I have no answer as to how long your little beast can survive without nourishment, all wasps/hornets will die after one season, except for the queen. The next season, she will find a new nesting area. |

Are you sure ABF was referring to the wasp? |
