I have been working for 6 months. After months of asking (harassing), my Director claims that she has arranged my pension and taxes. This leads me to a few questions.

1) Do I pay the pension retro-actively? (do we pay from the time she signed it up, or from when i started working?)

2)Do I pay taxes retro-actively?

3) How much should I pay for taxes? (She is charging me 5% which I think is too much, isn't it 3.3%??)

She just took a HUGE chunk out of my pay for all of the above and I DON"T trust her AT ALL!

Thanks a million!

I could easily be wrong, but my understanding is that pension and taxes would require retroactive pay (not healthcare though). 5% sounds high. You can check if she has actually registered you with pension or not.

Actually, I was under the impression that healthcare is charged retroactively. I had to pay it.

Yes, Health care IS retroactive...you'll have to pay back to your first month at the present job, or back to Jan.2006...whichever is nearest.

Taxes are obviously retroactive, but in my case, pension was not.

To the OP, you'd best contact the appropriate agencies to report your employers failure to contribute....
5% tax withholding is too much if you are enrolled in the pension and health care schemes. The good news is, that if your employer is actually reporting your taxes properly, you will get a refund next MAY.

You can get the contact numbers for the offices in your area....
Pension: http://www.npc.or.kr/eng/g_index.html
Health Care: http://www.nhic.or.kr/wbe/index.html
Taxes: http://www.nts.go.kr/eng/default.html

You will need your school's name, phone number and address, the owner's name, and you will also need your ARC card number.

Hmm, my employer said I would have to pay back for healthcare but didn't deduct from my paycheck, unless they forgot to put it on the pay stub. Do you think it's worse to have an idiot or a cheat for a boss?

Did he actually give you your cute little health care registration booklet?
Maybe he still hasn't enrolled.

We get a return on our taxes?
I might get outta here ASAP once my contract is finished in February 2007!

Also, i'm a bit of a techno peasant, and have been on the Korean taxes website, however i can't seem to find the section on tax rates? (so that i can show my shaddy Director that she is charging me too much!)

Thanks!!

I don't mean to be harsh, but if you can't navigate a tax website, er...nevermind.

we have an apple at home, and it seemed not to log onto the correct page for the tax rate.
