|
|
Hello,
I have an odd question. I've currently got a great job in Seoul at a very famous school blah blah blah. The thing is that the landlord that they got my (great) apartment with does not want me to use the address when going for my Alien Registration Card because he's trying to avoid some sort of tax. So the school is saying to use the school address or the address of my fellow coworker who lives in the same apartment building just above me. Would this pose a problem for me in the future? Such as installing cable in my own apartment considoring my alien resident card address does not match or is slightly off from the apartment I want serviced.
Any info would be great!

I wouldn't. I know you have to fill out forms and let them know when you change address.
PS, what do you mean by the bolded part, are they not owned by the same person?

My suggestion would be not to be a part of other people's crimes.
If they *** it up, it ain't your fault.

laogiaguk,
People do not live in APARTMENTS in Korea, they are all CONDOS. Each one is owned by a different person. |

Yes, ontheway is pretty much dead on about the apartments in the same building being owned by diffrent people.
As to the OP's question I wouldn't do it. Your really taking a risk and could end up screwing yourself in the long run. |

Well, my entire villa is owned by one person, so I just assumed. All the apartments I have seen in China are the exact same as you are saying too. |

If immigration finds out you've given them the wrong address they will fine you. On the lighter side they probably won't even bother to check whether you are at the address you stated or not.
As long as you can receive mailings from immi (for example: special notices of policy change like the degree verification last January or your visa expiry notice which will arrive about a month in advance of your expiry date) then you should be ok.

Wow, really? I'm not trying to be funny...I have never received a visa expiry notice. Is this a relatively new thing? |

| I think it's quite common to use the school address as your mailing address and therefore, on your ARC card. I wouldn't worry about it. When getting cable or whatever, just carry your home address in your billfold. No one will say anything about it. |

| I scribbled mine in so it was illegible. Nobody ever said anything. I didnt know mine at the time so I made it up. I would just scribble it and play ignorant. |

| I was living in a PC bang at the time of my last ARC application. I just gave the address of my school to immi as my place of residence in Korea. They didn't say anything about it. Then, when I renewed my E2, I had forgotten about the address I had given, and wrote down another address on the renewal form. I realised that I had given a different address previously, when the clerk circled my address in red to update my computer file. But, they didn't say anything. I haven't had any trouble from it. |

thanks for the advice!
I'm def not using a wrong address. It's my address or the schools I think. I'm made a formal complaint to the school so they are going to sort it out. |

I think so. I didn't get one the last time I was in Korea, but I got one just today about my current visa expiring.

It won't be a problem as long as you continue to use that address on the forms every time you leave the country and come back in.
Still, I agree with other posters about not assisting the landlord in his less than legal dealings. At the very least, he could cut you a break in the rent! |
