I have done it many times.

-TAKE a translator unless you can speak and read Korean.
-Remember that you CAN"T contract away anything that is required under Korean labor law.
-Read and remember the current Korean labor standards act.
http://www.molab.go.kr/download/_20051220144304549.pdf
-Make sure your claim / complaint falls within the scope of the labor act.

-Hold your temper and be polite but firm.
-You are NOT in America - it's about balance not the bottom line.
-The labor board only deals with "labor issues". If you are fighting over medical, pension, taxes, housing, other issues, you will have to go to the appropriate agency.

Why does everyone always want PM's? Maybe this info could help someone else, so I'm putting it here.

Bring a translator! This it the most vital step. Get a Korean to phone for you and find out exactly what documents you need (Passport, bankbook, etc) before you go.

Ditto with the polite. There's some degree of ambiguity it seems and not entirely a matter of right and wrong so being polite can't hurt. If the labor board person likes you and feels for you, it can go a long way I think.

Also, don't burn bridges with your school. Be polite, but firm with them as well. Being rude will get you no where in Asia.

All above have very good advice. I'd stress being as diplomatic and undramatic as possible.
