Just what it says. I think I've seen one hiking. 'Think' because some squat, heavy animal was bowling through a mountainside meadow chest high with that tall, reedy, catail-like grass. Bowling like a little Napoleonic critter, throwing it's weight around in a beeline away from me.
Recently I came across a mud wallow with their footprints and, beside that, where they'd rub against the tree. The mud acting like sandpaper taking the bark off. This a natural stand of water on a mountainside about the size of a toddler paddling pool. Churned and carved out by repeated feral porker wallowing....
I think I've seen a lair where a rockfall and water running made a boulder splay down part of a mountainside near the top. Nobody home. Maybe. On the net I've read they are nocturnal.
Sus scrofus is their name, being a wild pig their game......Do I hear an oink? |
