I just bought this dvd today. Has anyone seen it and what did you think? Am I correct in saying George Clooney won an Academy Award for his efforts in this flick? |

Yeah, I bought the DVD a couple of months ago too.
Not Clooney's best acting that year.
But make-overs half win Oscars these days (Kidman in Hours; Theron in Monster) and his beard and tan made him look totally different.
It also has important messages, even the conveying of truths, that appeal to the liberals in the Academy, views almost mainstream, like: the American involvement in overthrows/succession of governments far overseas, especially in the interests of oil, the sale/misappropriation of American arms for use in terrorist attacks against U.S. interests, the denial and scapegoating of individuals within the gov't, etc.
I enjoyed the film, though it was less challenging in terms of acting than I'd hoped, and Matt Damon as a grieving father having lost a son, again manages to BARELY fill a role, showing himself to be an actor of limited range, who should stick to the niche he does well. |

Good assessment.
I though Clooney was excellent, but yes, Damon falls very short. Had they cast another in his place, I think the film would have had more power. |

Yeah, it was an OK movie. Too bad George Clooney is a nutcase though. |

Nice review but I disagree with you on Matt Damon. He was wooden but believeable enough as commodities broker who got swept up in the whole "let's make a difference thing." I do think that this movie could have done with an extra 30 minutes though as several side stories could have been explored further. |

OK, how's Clooney, in your opinion, a nutcase?

Clooney has developed a reputation as being a left-wing loonie in Hollywood as of late for his political comments. The powers that be are trying to smear him because he has expressed interest in running for president and may just win. His father and brother are also politically active. |

Exactly why he's a nutcase. Perhaps, he should stick to acting, which sucks bad enough as it is. Nobody, with any sense wants to hear him bash Bush every chance he gets. He's a nobody - a nothing, yet garners so much air time - ridiculous. |

Everyone has a right to express an opinion. Blame the media that prints it if you must blame someone, not the man using his freedom of expression. |
