I have actually heard people complain about requirements for a Criminal Record Check before anyone can be hired as a teacher. In the last couple of years, South Korea has started to require a Criminal Record Check - but see below how useful it is.
Look at this link... even with a conviction for child porn, the man who is to be charged with 7 year old JonBenet Ramsey's murder in 1996 was able to enter Thailand and look for a job.

Triple YUCK - ESL teachers should be REQUIRED to have Criminal Record Checks - it's scary to think how many pedophiles are teaching. (At my public school system last year in Kunpo, some dude - who presumably had "passed" his US Criminal Record Check - got caught fooling with the female students at his high school. So what did the silly school do? Just tossed him out of SK - no criminal charges - so HE is probably teaching someplace else in Asia.) |

Sure I am all for criminal record check. Wouldn't it be easier just to deny passport issuance by our countries if you have a criminal record. I think Canada has a similar policy.
Any who, who is gone fork out for this criminal record check? |

Oh God, good point Shane. Geez this is going to get blown WAY out of proportion...give it a week or so. They'll dig it up.
Suddenly we are all criminals because one paper says so. |

A criminal record should be encoded into the passport.
It'd save us having to go through so much hassle trying to order one from korea.
How do you get a criminal record check if you haven't lived in the same place longer than a year in the past decade? |

... when you've lived in different places???
My Criminal Record Check is thru the FBI - I don't know if they check worldwide criminal records or if it is just all USA. If so, I could be a terrorist or pedophile or shoplifter every other place on earth and my FBI check wouldn't show it.
Dunno if you colonials go thru your povinces or if you have national system. In Canada I t hink you just go to local Mounties. |

You can always go to the Mounties, but if your city has it's own police force, you can go to them too. |

Does anyone know anything about the recruiting firm for Karr?
JOB 4 TEACHER.com
International Recruiting Co., Inc.
I'm sure they will be out of biz soon. |

Criminals are everywhere in the world. They come in all shapes, sizes, and professions. At a PC bang right now? Look around. There's a good chance someone may be a criminal. EVERYBODY PANIC! Close your blinds, lock your door, watch the news attentively, support a war and never, never open your door. Feel better now? And remember, someone reading this post right now is the criminal in the room. |

ESL teachers should be REQUIRED to have Criminal Record Checks |
My Uni asked me to get a criminal records check done. Too bad it takes "in excess of 150 working days". My contract will probably be over before then. I'm planning on sitting on the paper work until my boss asks for it and then launching into my immitation of him. "Please, you must understand ..." |

I think the FBI check takes at least 6-8 weeks and maybe other countries are longer. The Criminal Record Checks are now REQUIRED though a lot of schools are slow about getting them in. However, I suspect your E2 could be pulled if you don't have one in process, assuming the Korean govt gets spooked about the John Karr case.
Big problem for Korea is all this last-minute hiring. Other countries have contracts in place 2-3 MONTHS out (instead of the typically Korean 2-3 DAYS before you start ) which gives people ample time to get all the docs ready. In Korea, half the time they barely have time to get the signed contract to immigration for the entry visa, much less everything they need for the final E2.
But maybe issues such as this will force them to get their act together and get docs ready in advance.
You could be playing Russian Roulette with your contract on this eventually, though now you can probably stall away the time. |

Germany: Three girls - 7, 11, and 12: I taught English to the girls through conversational and instructional methods.
I gave computer instruction to the girls via their laptop PC's. I drove the girls to their activities: ballet, riding,
handball, etc. I assisted the girls with their homework.
Germany: Two girls - 5 and 8; boy 10: I taught English to the children through conversational and instructional
methods. I awoke the children in the morning and gave them breakfast. I helped the children get ready for school
and escorted them to the school bus. I helped the 8 year old girl with her homework each day. I took the children
outside for play. At days end, I made sure the children had their evening bath, then put them to bed and read to
them before they went to sleep.
Netherlands: Baby girl 9 months, boy 3, and girl 4: I taught English to the three year old boy and four year old girl,
through conversational and instructional methods. I was very attentive to needs of the baby which included
changing, feeding, and bathing her. I helped the baby when she learned to walk at 10 and a half months. I fostered
independence in the children's activities.

I have had to have fingerprints taken and a BCI done...When I applied to work in GA I had to send 3 copies of forms to turn into the school for background and criminal checks prior to being allowed to teach.
this should always be done along with having original diplomas and transcripts to weed out the bad apples |
