Hi there,

I'm a 22 year old Scottish girl who has just graduated. I am doing an online TEFL course at the moment. I would appreciate any information about going out to Korea to teach, Im trying to get as broad a picture as possible. Really would like to know about actually applying for jobs, how long does it take, how many places should I apply to, how much experience do they look for, should I wait until I finish my tefl course (am about half way through) etc. I really want to get away as soon as possible, (next couple of months) but dont know if this is realistic. Also is it possible to start anytime or do most places look for someone to start at the begining of term? Are most places for a year or can you do six months?

Sorry for so many questions!!! Answers to any of them would be great.

In fact any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Claire

The search function is a load of crap, it doesn't work well at all.

The thing to do is read the stickies at the top of each forum.

Yeah, 'search' is not always compliant here...Perhaps there are simply too many fragments of posts.

In brief to answer your question: You can apply year round to Korean jobs, especially Hogwans (private language institutes) or through recruiters. Hogwans and recruiters are potentially less desirable than working in a primary/secondary school or university in terms of working hours, vacations, and the commercial pressure of trying to keep your students, but probably with your age and being fresh out of uni, you will probably have to go through the hogwan or recruiter first and show that you can jump through the hoops to demonstrate you can deserve a 'better' position. If the school is in dire need of a teacher asap, you could be in work by the end of the month. Just make sure you have the E2 visa before you start work - takes about 12-21 days to process depending on district.

Scour the job board on this site from day to day (other job sites are also listed in my link below) and get a feel for what's out there. Don't necessarily take the first thing you see. Good luck.
