'Airlines terror plot' disrupted

A terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight from the UK to the US has been disrupted, Scotland Yard has said.

It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on to as many as 10 aircraft in hand luggage.

Police arrested about 18 people in the London area and West Midlands after an anti-terrorist operation.

High security is causing delays at all UK airports, Heathrow is closed to incoming flights, and MI5 has raised the threat level to critical.

According to MI5's website, critical threat level - the highest - means "an attack is expected imminently and indicates an extremely high level of threat to the UK".

If Germany can ban scientology, why can't UK ban Islam. I mean Scientologists like Tom Cruise simply entertain, whereas Islam gives us planes trains and automobiles blowing humans to shreds, not to mention beheadings, hijackings, and assorted and sundry acts of sanctioned "holy" violence.

I say ban it.

How long before the Guardian starts talking about 'alienated, angry and disenfranchised' Muslim youth.

There are many people in the UK who are alienated, disenfranchised and angry at the policies of Blair and his government. Most people respond by writing letters of complaint to the papers or simply emigrating. Some Muslims respond by trying to commit mass murder. Why? Because they can find ample justification for such acts in the sacred texts of Islam.

I've just heard that- for the forseeable future (i.e. until they determine the threat and whether current methods of detection are adequate) no liquids, lotions, gels, or creams are allowed to be carried on by plane passengers. The exception is baby formula.

We are at war with Islam. This is a clash of civilizations. On one hand you have the west and others who follow the ideals of the 18th century enlightenment. On the other you have the followers of a 7th century ideology that promotes slavery, intolerance and the subjugation of women. We must destroy all those who follow that pernicious creed lest they destroy us first. The war has started. Those who deny is fact are either fools or knaves.

Yes.
But does this mean that the West is at war with the entire Islamic world, every Muslim?

They're charged with more violent crimes, they make up a higher percentage of prison populations than anyone else...

The problem with ideologies is: The harder you come down on them the more successful they become.....its a breeding ground for martyrs. Suicide bombers are a perfect example....25 years ago you never heard of these morons......then the first few went off....their families were rewarded financially and they were acclaimed as heroes....now anyone with a gripe can strap a bomb to themselves and kill innocents....the precedent has been set.

Ideologies deal in belief and obedience.....you feed enough crap to these young people and all of the sudden they are white knights battling against evil and dying gloriously for for their god. The biggest problem with Islam is that any moron can become a holy man and interpret the Koran as they see fit.

And like any religion there are a million people out there just waiting to believe in something!
