Realizing there are many stickies...FAQ's and research one can do...Nothing, and I mean nothing compares to the word-of-mouth networking. I must say...I think as we are all wanting to teach overseas for the most part..someone must have had a good gig...or knows someone who is looking for someone...why revert all who politely ask for a recommendation to a sticky...
I firmly believe that in my life's experience..one person knows another who knows another who may know someone needing a teacher...does it hurt to ask that..No, I do not think so. Please folks be kind and if you know of a gig...let a person know..If you left on good terms or re-signed in the past..let someone know of that gig..All gigs are not bad. |

Networking is, yes, by far the best way to find your way around the TEFL world.
Many people who have been overseas for more than a few years - tend to find their jobs through "connections" and friends. My last real interview - for a job that I took - was in 1996.
But - if your post is a polite request for info about specific schools, then you need to let people know things like where you want to work, your qualifications for that type of work, what city or area you want to live in, etc.
Networking though, usually works best if you establish relationships FIRST. Many of us online have spent hours and hours and hours happily helping people - but often are quickly forgotten when a new "friend" disappears without even a "thank you" - once they got what they wanted. Not so much networking, as just being used. Tis a two-way street it is . . .
On the other hand, I like the karma aspects of helping people - many people have helped me in the past and I like to return the positive energy. |
