Anyone been to Songtan? I went there recently. It is pretty cool, and it is not far from Cheonan. It is a really nice foreign district that is, in some ways, better than Itaewon. It is located near a base as well. They have a Mexican restaurant, Thai restaurant, Popeyes, and a very cozy cafe with nice couches. You can find a couple of cigar shops there. It is pretty good for souvenir shopping. It is better than Itaewon in that respect. I feel it is somewhat of a mix between Itaewon and Insadong. As far as Bologna, hot dogs, and turkey salami I found that stuff in certain areas behind the main streets. I also found canned corned beef. I think it is a place to check out. I did buy a decent sized vitamin C supplement for 15 bucks. Normally, in Korean stores they are double the price. |

Songtan is the second biggest pile of s-h-i-t in Korea next to Itaewon. hot dogs? ....mmmmm.....what's worse? dog soup or horse/cow/pig di-ck, lips, and a-s-s.
Songtan is good for getting a suit custom tailored and then getting out as fast as you possibly can. |

Hot dogs, bologna, bitter rant. Let's shake things up a bit and say that Songtan has a fairly decent group of black market stores with decent prices compared to the hot spots in Seoul and the leather is cheapish. They also have some keen bars if you're into a largely American atmosphere. If you're not, then I'm sorry. I've braved RMT...numerous times...and survived. |

Frankly, I wasn't too impressed with Songtan when I went. I'd only go to Songtan if I lived in the sticks way down there and Namdaemun or Hannam Market is way too much of a trek to bother. Shopping-wise, that is. As for nightlife, it's better than Dongducheon, but not by much. At least the MPs don't own Songtan nightlife in the same tight-ass fashion as they do in TDC. |

Songtan has cheaper black market items, although not as much variety, than Red Door and is closer to my house. Therefore, I go there. It has as decent bars and restuarnts as Itaewon, if that's your thing. It has the best Subay sandwich shop I've been to in Korea.

Songtan is 30 minutes from Seoul if you take the bus terminal
It has Thai, Vietnamese, Philipino, Mexican, English and a varity of other restaurants.
Great place to shop, great black market stores(if you want something special they will arrange to get it in for you)
Its like stepping out of Korea to somewhere USA for a few hours. |

Hold up. I hit that up on Sunday and noticed they moved locations. They also seemed to have become the typical crappy normal Subway you find in Korea, with the exception that they carry Swiss. Do I need the secret handshake, or did the old Subway there implode? |

If you are american and want to feel like your in little america...go to songtan. It really beats the hell out of Itaewon. Subways is a lot better than the one in Suwon by far. They even ask you what you want on your sandwich!!!! And they dont take your money first before making the sandwich. Thai restaurant is also a great place to go to. Bad side is that its far from seoul. IF you live in suwon..its perfect. |

For such a little place, Songtan has an impressive selection of restaurants. 3 Thai places, Filipino, American (of course!) and a cracking Nolboo for Korean food. |

My friends and I travel from Bucheon to Songtan about once a month. We load up on American foods, have amazing Thai food, have a great time in the clubs drinking and dancing, eat an awesome grilled burger at the apple bar for 4,000 won, stay in a nice cheap hotel for 30,000 won, and generally have a great time! The airforce bunch are way friendlier and more fun than anyone we've encountered in Itaewon! Heck, we don't even go to Itaewon anymore! I'm way more comfortable being a in a club after curfew and not being harassed by all the creepy guys who come out after the GI's go home. We are well known by the bars we like, and they have a great time with us! The only drawback is the distance from Bucheon, but it's great over all! |

Where do you catch the bus? I also live in Bucheon and would like to check this place out. I think it was the part about the grilled burger that got to me. |

Actually we take the Subway. If you are at Guro by 6pm Saturday evening, the Express train to Osan leaves at 6:01pm. Gets you down there in 45 minutes. Express train from Our area gets you to Guro in 10 minutes, so it's not too bad. Or you can go to the Bucheon Bus terminal and take the Bus to Pyongtaek, and the train from there to Songtan. |

I notice in your long list of Songtan's many delights, there's no mention of lurky, stalky, gropy, police-won't-do-a-blessed-thing-about-'em Nigerians? Honestly, how great or "international" can such a place pretend to be?
But seriously, that 45-min. travel time really doesn't sound so bad. I mean, Itaewon _looks_ central to anywhere in Seoul, but once you factor in transfers & rush-hour traffic -- particularly that absolute crawl-speed once you get to Itaewon -- and it's suddenly not all that quick a jump from many areas in Seoul. |
