|
|
Hey there everyone,
I'll be heading to Korea in May but meanwhile my cell phone has bitten the dust here in Canada. I'll have to get another and was hoping to get one that I could use in Korea as well. Anyone know the requirements i.e. what I have to look for in a phone that can work in Canada as well as Korea? Thanks in advance for helping the technology impaired! |

Except for a SATELLITE phone, there are NO phones that are compatable between Canada and Korea.
They use 2 completely different radio systems and technologies.
Whatever you do there you will still have to acquire a Korean phone when you get here. |

| I'm not sure what the most popular network is in Canada is, but SK does have some GSM capibilities. I think they are calling it their "roaming service". The real question is would you want to pay for it? It's only people traveling frequently overseas. |

Call your cell phone provider and ask them what you need to do to use your phone in Korea.
I called Sprint here in Kansas City and they quoted me some outragous rate. I think it was $3/min.

| thanks for the replies everyone.... I spoke with rogers, my provider, and they said they have one phone that I could use here and then cancel my plan here and use in Korea by buying phone cards etc. Are phones fairly cheap there so I can just not worry about this at all? Thanks! |

you'll probably be buying a used phone... I got a nice one from Yongsan recently, used and for about 50K Won, 70K with the charger/minutes. That's about $80 CDN
so yeah... relatively, I'd say it's cheap. Just buy it here. |

If you are near Toronto, I would suggest going down to College street and talking to the fellows there. Particularly Canada Computers.
They will sort you out. |
