Hi! I've got a continuing-ed class to teach, and I need to hunt down a fresh textbook. I went to the bookstore today and browsed, but I thought the best thing would be to consult the experts: you. [/brown-nosing]

The last book I had was colourful, came with a CD for the students, used a variety of accents (native and non-native), had heaps of ideas for extending the lesson, was hands-on, just wonderful stuff.

I'm not looking for a vocabulary or grammar book, and I fear that a majority of the students would not be able to manage "free talk." Any good ideas for titles, series or authors?

I've used the Touchstone series with good results. Springboard can be fun as well for students.

Hey, that sounds great! Tell the rest of us non-experts the title of that one, please, Kermo. It sounds like it may be what I need.

"Tell Me More"--most basic
"It's Up to You"--more advanced, but a still a mix.

see this website: http://www.finchpark.com/books/index.htm

Also, "Beyond the Horizon" by Kevin Asher and Brad Tipka. don't know a site for this one.

These books are written specifically for Korean students. Task and project-based.

Sorry- I would certainly have shared but the title eludes me. I'll check my office tomorrow and post it. Smile

If it's 'free' conversation, howabout the 'Jazz English' series (In 2 volumes?). It's aimed at Korean adults. It's pretty good to use.

Gateways isn't bad for adults.

I bought this one years ago, but now they have that second volume. It's not the most glamorous text, but really good for situational and practical vocabulary.

Here's a book I would use again in a heartbeat:

English Firsthand, by Marc Helgesen, Steven Brown and Thomas Mandeville

The teacher's guide is expensive, but worth its weight in gold.

You can get them at Bandi and Luni's (sp?) in COEX, and Kyobo Books, though I can't guarantee everyone will have them in stock.

Kermo,

I agree with you about English Firsthand. I've yet to pick up the teacher's book and classroom CDS but the text looks to be very useful.

I have just started using Jazz English for my more advanced high school class. It is really airmed for adults and works well in my opinion.

Are you still in Yongin??

I also liked the look of the English Firsthand book. However, it only comes in 2 elementary level volumes, so we can't use it for our course range which needs to span from beginner to advanced speaker.

Jazz English is also in 2 volumes only, but it is better for mixed level.
