My friend who works for the UN messaged me the other day. She's coming to Korea to help the Koreans run some bird flu drills. She had just come from Singapore where there were a series of UN sponsored talks on bird flu and how nations should handle it. She said it became a bit of a running joke at the meeting that every time a Korean delegate asked a question, the question was invariably "So is this the point where we declare marshal law?" |

What happened to bird flu anyway?
Six months ago we were told it was going to kill millions of people. Hasn't been mentioned since! |

"bird flu" plays right into most koreans deepest fears. I have yet to meet a Korean who was not afraid of a pigeon.
My verdict? bird flu is vastly exxagerated as a threat and as a reality. More people die from bee stings. |
