Which option best describes you, even if your situation doesn't ideally let you have your most comfortable option at the moment.

While I like going out with a group now and then, I much prefer to go out with one or two friends.

As for teaching, while I CAN do 1-1, I prefer a class of 12. Lots of options for groups. Of course most of my classes have 30, but I'm good with that, too.

socially I prefer to be alone (people suck) or at most with 1-2 people. Teaching I prefer groups. minimum class 6. The best class size is 12 because you can have groups of 2, 3, 4, 6, and of course 12.

I prefer teaching groups of no more than 12. I prefer socializing with 1 or 2 others at a time, or even going solo. People in Korea have told me they admire me for being able to go out alone. I have worked with teachers who would sit at home on a Friday night if all their friends were busy. I would just go! I was born and raised in a teeny tiny town, too, but I can go out alone in Seoul. These teachers were from bigger towns and were scared to go somewhere alone.

I prefer socialising in small groups around 3-4. I prefer to teach the same - small groups (4 or less).

Of course, most of my classes have about 10 students.

Like everyone else, I prefer to socialize in smaller numbers (me and my drink, or my PS2 or computer or even my wife Razz) or a few people if I must.

Teaching...whatever. I can take as many as you throw at me.
Anyone ever lecture to over 50 people?

i prefer teaching 1 on 1, because then your feedback is immediate and detailed. with groups, there will be some people who get it faster than others, and some whose attention wanders, etc.
socially, it depends on the person or the group and what we're doing.

In social settings, big groups are a little overwhelming to me unless I know most of the people there already. Even so, I prefer socializing with just a couple people at a time. In the classroom, it really depends on the class dynamics. I generally teach kindergarten and prefer a small class, especially since I don't have a co-teacher. Less than 8 is my ideal for kindy. Elem, middle, and high school, I prefer teaching groups of 8-12 but am not opposed to one-on-one with a motivated student.

There's a fundamental difference between ONE-on-ONE and groups of three, four and more. Sociologists talk about it and we feel it in our social interactions. There's a social pressure and stage element when there's three and more.

I suspect from your posts many have clicked they prefer one-on-one socially when in fact you prefer groups albeit small. getting together with a COUPLE of friends, IS a group, it definitely is not one on one! So if you have more fun or simply feel more comfortable with two or three friends together rather than doing something with a single best friend then vote accordingly.

Your results are mostly what I expected but, darn, not completely.
(I'll reveal my theory after the weekend.)

I like to be:

alone with my wife at home
surrounded by friends at parties or outings

...and it doesn't matter how many students are in the classroom. My preference? For ESL classes, 12 works great. For non-ESL, I like the dynamic of having 25-50 for a nice medium sized class.
