I just read this rather disturbing article in the Korea Times about students (including very young students) advertising online for people to come and "punish" them for small problems with their classes or parents. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a real or significant phenomenon? I quoted one of the worst parts, but you should go read the whole article:
Quote: |
The bigger problems occur when trying to discipline oneself develops into sadism and masochism. In an Internet cafe, many people post want ads looking for people to beat them or be beaten by them. ``I live in Kwangjin-gu, and I am a middle school student looking for someone to punish me," an article reads.
Rumors such as, ``being beaten by top class university students can guarantee a good academic future" spread over the Internet. In another cafe, a man advertises himself as a Korean Ivy Leaguer saying, ``I am a 21-year-old Seoul National University student. Is anyone wanting to be spanked? I can show my student identity cards if necessary."
Moreover, sexual issues can come into sadism and masochism. Some pictures drawn by members of these cafes showing a man criticizing a woman for bad school scores directly illustrates the problem. |
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. |

I vaguely recall someone posting an article from one of the tabloids (National Enquiror?...) citing a "scientific" survey that spanking helps students get significantly higher scores on exams, and it noted that there was a market for it (somewhere - I forget exactly where...)
Sounds like a "business" opportunity. (For legal reasons they'd best be over a certain age - 18 or 21 ?- and not your own students...)
Although - or perhaps because - I find it disturbing, I'd volunteer to spank attractive (mini-skirted) women (with great legs...) to stimulate their er... educational achievement (impervious to being labeled a perve... )

I'm fully willing to paddle the ass of any 19yo + female student whose work has not been up to scratch. Moreover, I only ask for busfare in return. |

This must be some kind of hoax. Ivy Leaguers do better paddling? That's like trying to get a better test score by sleeping with your textbook under your pillow. Osmosis, you know. |

I just actually read the article - here's the best part:
...The woman's knickers are pulled off and she is crying but at the same time looking not so tragic at all. Some contents of the cafes are actually from Japanese SM footage. When a netizen asked if there would be any danger when being beaten by strangers met through Internet, one of the members advised, ``Sometimes beating develops into sexual intercourse, so if you do not want sexuality in punishment, you should be careful.'' |
