Anyone know if Korean Air is dropping excess luggage charges because of the terrorism threat and restrictions on hand luggage? I know British Airways and loads of others have done from London.
Am flying to Korea on Friday and Korean Air only give 20kg of allowance which sucks. I think I'm going to have to wear about five layers of clothes to make sure I'm not overweight on luggage. My laptop case is going to be packed with everything heavy too!
How much is excess luggage anyway?

ur allowed to take a bag + laptop or baby items as hand luggage so you'll be fine. they'll usually let you take up to 25kg or so on a 20kg limit flight as long as the flight isn't horrendously overbooked...check in early as closer to departure time the computers start to tell the check in staff to enforce baggage limits. usually you're allowed about 8kg hand luggage which is extremely flexible. if they charge excess usually the price is around 20$ US a kilo. are you flying from london??? you'll get a more reliable answer calling KAL direct and asking about the new hand luggage restrictions than you will from this site.

I haven't left for korea yet but based on other trips I have made here is my plan.

Take an hour long walk carrying your stuff. No wheels. Use a backpack. If it seems too heavy then leave some more behind.

Read the posting and find out what few things are not easy to get in korea.
I've noticed on this board that someone has posted how to get just about everything in Korea. Lot's of stuff can be mailed to you from home if you get in a bind.

What you want to take will of course depend on your preferences. I'm going to take

A year's supply of my favorite deodorant.

My brand of toothpaste.

Abreva.

A few days of regular travel toiletries.

Laptop bag with laptop.

Bed sheets.

Coat, gloves, hat and hooded sweatshirt for winter.

Two weeks of clothes.

Everything else I will buy in Korea.
