We're getting Married this Christmas in Canada, but I'm not certain if I need to be released from my E-2 before I cna get my F-2. Does anyone know? I do not want to stay at my School in the New Year. I'll have been there 2 1/2 years by December, it is written into my current contract that I get a LOR on demand, but I am not sure if I need it. Cheers! |

As far as I know... when you get your f-2 your e-2 becomes void and replaced by that. You don't need to be released from your e-2, the f-2 will release you from it. |

I just went through this.
My E-2 was two weeks out from expiring. I had been married for 3 months already. My wife and I got the paperwork together and filled out and headed to Suwon Immigration. I never renewed or extended my E-2, as far as I know, my E-2 was canceled when my F-2 was issued.
People on F-2's no longer need to apply for work permission as they had to in the past. If you are in Korea on an E-2 and switch to the F-2, it should be pretty much seamless from your point of view.

The F2 will set you free.
Back when I got the F2-1 it co-existed with the E2. But now if you get the F2 it will void the E2 and you will finally be a semi-free man. Remember, your wife will now lawfully own you instead of your boss, a much better state of things. To be a truly free man who owns himself, you need the F5. |
