Hello,

I recently got my F4 visa this summer as well as my Korean driver's license. Kudos to Dave's ESL cafe for providing me with all the info i needed to get them, all the way from finding the place to what was required to get it!!~ came in most handly *^^*

Now, I plan on living in Korea for about a year and would like to signup for a Korean credit card as well as my own cell phone. I've heard that holding an F4 visa provides with the same rights as a Korean native... hence easy to get a credit card and cell phone. Or do I still need someone (a korean native) to sponsor me?

Appreciate any help or suggestions~

I dont think your number will register.

Your most likely going to need to put down a deposit for the CC. Most banks in Korea will offer a secured credit card for foreigners.

You will probably need a korean to help out with the phone. If not; you will likely need a deposit or buy a pay as you go celly.

Please check my posts about cellphones within this same General Discussion forum.

F4 but still you need a credit card or bank account in your name to set up direct billing.

cell phone - just go to any cell phone store, they will let you get a regular korean account. I got mine with SK telecom. They went through a little binder filled with information on how to activate the phone, but I was in and out in about 15 minutes.

credit card - I was originally declined for a shinhan card even though my direct deposit is with them. I got a samsung, LG, hyundai, amex card just by applying with the card representatives that came to my office. Ridiculously high credit limits without having to leave a deposit, and you have to pay entire balance at the end of the month. When applying you have to give them your rank/position in your company. Then they confirm that with human resources (they did in situation) and if all goes well you should have your card hand delivered in 2 weeks. -- But you cant do this if you work in a hogwan -- from what the credit card rep on the phone said, you have to have a certain income and not be a teacher in a hogwan no matter how much money you make.

Pls read this info on purchasing a direct billed cell phone.

LG phones:

Application fee: (only for second hand phones not applying to new phones with our store) 30.000 won. Can pay installment of 10.000 per month as a direct debit from your bank account.
Bank account book: In your own name for direct debit purposes, so sign a form in store.
ID card: ARC card.
That's it!

Sk and KTF phones not available as monthly plan.
No hidden dealer charges and profitteering.
Not 450 won a minute as 'cardphone' are but about 30 won.

You may wish to meet me at our large family store in Bucheon. Good selection of phones. Second hand phones from about 30.000 won (some scratches). Good second hand phones (camera, cam, mp3) up to 120.000 won or so. New phone cheapest (Cyon) about 250.000. (All phone store prices change a little daily.) Up to 700.000 for latest best model. Of course A/S guaranteed and I can assist you with software with your laptop or PC.

Please PM me, or phone 010 9917 7776.
The best deal for fellow teachers and ex pats.
