Hello all.
In order to extend an ARC, which I understand can be 14 days or so, what kind of onward ticket does one have to present to immigration? Does it have to be a plane ticket, or can I show them a ferry ticket to Fukuoka? If so, for a Canadian, how long is the ARC extension usually good for?
My contract ends on september 18th, but my ARC expires on September 9th.

If you want to extend your E-2 for work-related activities, you have to have your boss give you some forms so that you are allowed to work. I believe you'll need your contract, his bus. registration papers, and a small fee.
But, if you only need it extended because of your travel, there is no problem. BUT: YOU CANNOT WORK DURING THIS EXTENSION. All you need is proof that you are leaving the country within 14 days of the expiration (ferry is fine), and your ARC, they'll scribble on the back and you're cool.

9 days is JUST within the limit.

♣ Information (Extension period of stay for departure)
When a foreigner can not leave Korea within the period of stay granted because of unsecured transportation or other unavoidable reasons, if he/she files for an extension of stay for departure to the applicable immigration office with an application form, passport, a confirmed ticket and materials indicating statement of reasons for making an application, he/she can get a 10 day extension without any fee payment.
However, I can tell you from exerience that I have personally had an extension (free) for 12 days with an airticket. |
