Does anyone know if there is a market for older teachers?? I am 58 years old (female) and would love to work in South Korea teaching for a short term, but my understanding so far is that the market is for much younger persons. Could anyone shed any light on this subject?? Thanks so much.

Jenny

Hogwans generally want someone younger and image takes precedent. However, there are plenty of folks your age teaching in public schools here. Come on over!

Indeed, I in my thirties and a couple of twentysomethings make up the hagwon teachers from afar in this small town.

And the public schools in this town? A sixtysomething and fiftysomething in the high schools, a fiftysomething in the middle school, and a thirtysomething and fortysomething in the elementary schools.

Age is NOT a big barrier. There are so many job opportunities here that only a few recruiters and schools can afford to be picky. Beauty is a bigger problem (if you don't have any). But if you have a nice warm pretty smile on the photo you submit, that'll go a far way.

I'm 63 and work in a hogwon...no problem getting a job. You have to commit for a year...you'll have better luck away from Seoul as all the younglings want the night action there.

Older people tend to get jobs in the sticks.
