If you read this thread, there's going to be another expose on the bad habits of English teachers in Korea. There is a reporter for the show VJ특공대 (which translates to VJ Special Attack Force so you know it's going to be good) who has apparently been looking around on the internet for examples of bad behavior in the world of English teaching, and if you want to contact this person, you can kind find his/her phone number here at the bottom of this page.
My blog was picked up by the Anti-english spectrum internet cafe. Somebody started a thread about it and people debated a little bit about whether it was racist or just black humor. (For those of you who think Koreans can't understand sarcasm, there were people on the thread coming to my defense) At the bottom of the thread (to which I linked above) is a post by somebody saying they are a reporter for that show and that they want to be contacted by anybody who has examples of 'damage' that they want to talk about. I suppose one can assume that this 'damage' would be related to English teaching since the post (which has been duplicated several times) is found on a cafe related to bad English teachers. |

I would expect that any phone calls made would be a) POLITE and b) INTELLIGENT
Korean language skills will probably be needed. |

Surely you can see how a lot of the stories blogged in the New Yangpa play on stereotypes... regardless of where you are in the world there are people who will be offended by stereotyping - as would you by being lumped in the same boat as the English teachers involved in the recent exposes. I do enjoy reading the New Yangpa because in my world there are far more pressing matters than stereotype... and you know, it's simple humour, you can always exploit a stereotype for a laugh
But we all know the foundation of a lot of journalism is to sensationalise... bear that in mind when you're writing anything because its more than the Korean media who have a habit of misquoting and rehashing the original story... the smart thing to do would be to make the blogs private services, it should already be apparent the trouble that blogs can get you in regardless of your industry... |
