|
| Does anyone know of one? Or any banks that are easier to work with as far as accessing my US account in Korea or transferring money back and forth? |

| There's Citibank, but not sure if it's the same as the one back home. I didn't think it was, until I went to the Philippines last week and saw the same Citibanks there. Look into it, might be the same. |

They do, but they are NON-affiliated...
They are run like a separate bank and not different branches of the same bank.
They do NOT talk to each other and they are NO easier for doing business than say KEB or KB* or WOORI. Select your bank based on proximity and convenience for you while you are here. |

| I called Citibank in Korea last year and it's not a 1-to-1 relationship with the Citibank in the US. They are under the same umbrella, but they are not the same. I was looking to do the same thing, but found no where that would work. Lots of Korean ATM cards work in America or I would just get a Korean international credit card. |

I called Citibank in the United States. They made a point of saying my atm card would work in korea for withdrawls but not deposits.
They said the Korean Citibank is a separate bank and I would still have to pay a fee to transfer money to the US. I think the fee was $10. Someone suggested mailing a money order or traveler's check. I think I might do that.

Today I opened an account at the little bank my mother use in Arkansas City, KS aka Ark City. I put my mom on the account and got the 50+ interest on top of the free checking with no minimum balance.
When I get to Korea I'll just mail my deposits and use online to pay the bills.
Here's the funny part. I have a mazda pickup and my friend has a jeep cherokee. I drove my little subaru legacyfull of tools to his house and then he drove me home and we filled my mazda pickup and his cherokee full of tools. I still have more tools at my house. What does the bank give me as a free gift for opening the account?
A tool kit.
