If you are looking for a hakwon, then 30-60 days ahead. Hiring is all year long.
If you are looking for a public school gig, then Dec-Jan for a March start.
(March is the start of the public school year). |

ESL in Korea is a waste of a good science degree. get a real job while you still can.
If that doesn't deter you, Korean recruiters are known to prey on the weak at NZ University job fairs. |

Come and spend a year in a Hakwon, then you'll need a break.
Avoid the Hakwons if you don't have plentyof experience dealing with little kids, nothing like being stuck in a room with 6 or 8 little darlings who don't speak English and unless you can speak some Korean there's not a lot of communication. I wonder who inds it the most frustrating, the teacher or the kids. And if you haven't already worked it out, Hakwons are business', not usually professional educational organisations.
But living in Korea can be fun if you keep an open mind, don't make generalisations like a lot of people on Dave's do. Plan to carry on your interests. Martial arts, sports or anything else, have a quick google. Learn Hangeul and then you can google iin Korean, you won't know what you are looking at, but you will know something is there. You can ask someone for help then.
Cheers

School year starts in March so around January, Feburary are great times for public school positions.
hagwons hire around the year and the problem isn't how far in advance you should apply as they usually want you to start straight away. |
