I made a solar oven. It cooked better than any other cooking device I have ever used. This is not BS. EVERYTHING cooked in that was just perfect: bread, meat, veggies... everything.

1. Took two cardboard boxes, one 1.5 - 2 inches smaller than the other, placed the smaller inside the larger with insulating material (long johns!!) between on all sides, including the bottom.

2. Colored the interior of the smaller box black to absorb heat.

3. Used the flaps to cover the spaces at the top, secured with... nothing, actually. Just folded them in. You should close them up better than I is to avoid heat loss.

4. Used a length of weather stripping as a place for the glass top to sit, placed around the edges of the open central space.

5. Had tempered glass cut to the size needed.

6. Created a three-sided reflector to direct the sun's rays to the center of the cooking area.

Done.

Best cooking receptacles? Canning jars that you can lock down tight or thin tin pans blackened on the exterior. Canning jars give that extra pressure cooker element.

This puppy got up to nearly 300 degrees F.

Beautiful food. I kid you not.

A 12 x 24 deck on the front of my lakeside cabana. Made my own plans. Having to figure out terrain/building problems. Beautiful weather every day. It turned out awesome too.

EFL--I also installed photovoltaic panels/regulator/batteries system that summer. Solar energy rocks!

A wicked shelving system in my ex-girlfriends house, and I don't mean some pre-packed self-assembly DIY store effort either - I made this scratch, and mounted it on the wall all by myself!

Since I've been in Korea (4 months), I would say the coolest thing I've made is my giant cardboard dice.

I've built so much stuff (houses, a few tool sheds, and lots of furniture). Restored antique furniture, too. But nothing cool like a sailboat.

You drew that, Bul?

The best I can boast, aside from the portraiture and watercolour I've done, is some very groovy knitted socks, mittens and hats.

I built a latern in my Industrial Arts class in eighth grade. They actually let us use electric saws.
I actually like to refinish furniture. If I ever get back to Ohio then my bedroom furniture is next on my list.

My girlfriend was really into crochet and knitting in university, and we were living together, so one winter I crocheted my dad a beautiful quilt using the best yarn I could get, in an awesome pattern. My dad, Mr. Fix-Anything-Do-Anything-Well-with-his-hands, even can carve an awesome full winged bird out of a piece of wood. He got the quilt from his usually finger clumsy son, thanked me but I could see his Clint Eastwood type machismo wasn't impressed, and the following summer I came to visit and saw the quilt in the back of the cab of his pick-up, where the dog sits. Confused Six months work. So ended my venture into textile crafts.

The thing that first popped into my head was the summer before grade 6, where 2 friends and I (mostly me since it was our land) created a race track for our RC cars...no, not the pre-assembled type so I "made" that too...

Anyhow, over 2 months we made a track that took about 10 minutes to drive our cars through since it completely covered one acre. We sat in trees or on ladders to see them as raced around burns, over jumps, through tunnels, over and the end of the track was a long straightaway where cars gained momentum in order to glide across a 1 metre waterhole.

Yep, first thing that popped into my head....20 years later......hmmmm.

!shoosh,

Ryst
