I have a little bit of experience doing this but I'd be delighted if anyone with any experience with such an interview process could help me out. She really wants to get into Hanguk Foreign Languages University (한국외국대학규)and has only been given the vaguest details about an oral English interview in two weeks time.
Does anyone have some good sample questions to prepare for? Anyone know how much stress is actually placed on the interview relative to marks? My student suspects there'll be some questions on current events - any examples of what they may ask? Finally, my student isn't even sure if the interview will be with a Korean or native speaker - what's your guess?
Thanks in advance for any help. |

I prepped a student for an interview at this uni last year. I think his interview was in Korean.
My student was given a sheet with 1 compulsory and 3 optional questions on it. He given about 5 mins to answer the questions and was interviewed by a Korean professor.
Compulsory Q = What was your biggest challenge?
Optional Q centred around Korea's role in international affairs and Korea's relationship with Japan and China. Thankfully, he passed and was accepted. He didn't have the best academic record either, but we had been practicing interview techniques/sample interviews for about 7 months prior to his interfview. |

Thanks - I'll definitely try to prep her for questions about Korea and its role in international affairs (should I teach her 'largely irrelevant'?), though I do really wish I knew whether the interview will be by a foreigner or Korean. It is in English, so at least I have some idea what vocab to focus on. |

I'm not being sarcastic, but couldn't she just call them and ask them that?
It will make a huge diff if she/he rolls up thinking they will be interviewed in Korean and then it is all in English.
It's not as if she is asking what questions they will ask or anything like that.

Actually she just found out today that the interview will be done by a Korean professor and she'll be answering in both Korean and English. So that gives me some sort of idea where to start. |

I also have to prep a student for an upcoming university interview. I will find out monday if she knows what she will be asked. I do know I can help her out with the style of the interview quite a bit, as far as the content though, I could use some insight as to what she might be asked.
If anyone has any experience with Korean uni acceptance interviews, please share your insights.
Thanks. |

One possible question might be "What are your weaknesses." Your student needs to figure out what "weakness" they have that can be said, but with a positive spin. For example, I coached a student for a job interview in English. For his "weakness" we decided on the fact that he comes across as an unfriendly guy. He told them that he knew that he came across that way and was working to change his style.
He got the job! |

| On a similar note I have to prepare two middle schoolers for an interview for a foreign language high school. Any ideas on what kind of topics I should be preparing with them or what kind of questions they might be asked? This has just been dropped on me with no explanation or guidelines so I'm at sea about what to do with them. Thanks in advance for help (and sorry if I'm hijacking the thread ). |
