|
|
| All of a sudden, the video card in my PC seems to be getting really hot, and causing the whole case to overheat. I opened up the case, and there are 3 fans. One small one in the back of the computer (where are the plugs are), one big one on the processor, and one tiny one on the video card. All 3 are working fine. When I turn on the computer, about 20 minutes later, you can feel it getting warm. Then, after about an hour, it's so hot you can't touch it, and it blue screens (memory dump) and shuts down. Any thoughts? |

| If there is any dust, get some compressed air and blow it off. |

| you might want to monitor your heat - I linked to a monitor in this post. You should also check and see if your heat sink is attached correctly; that was my problem and once I fixed it my computer is running fine. |

On this Speedfan, looking at the Readings.
Fan1 and Fan2 are both running at about 3000 rpm. Fan 3 says 0 rpm, even though it's going around.
What do the 3 temps refer to? And, what is HD0? |

I had an overheating problem when I put new stuff into an old case. My sensors were going off all the time. Usually an overheating motherboard.
I didn't realize the importance of the airflow from the front of the PC and then out the back.
I checked out the front air inlet and found it to be totally clogged with fluff. So I vacuumed that out. As an extra measure, I took off an unused front panel. It leaves an ugly gap but it really worked. My temps since have been much, much lower. The whole PC feels cool to touch all the time now. |

| This heat is just coming straight from the video card. I can cook an egg on this thing. |

Take out the card and look at it. There may be bad contact with the GPU for some reason, or the thermal paste has called it quits. Maybe there is a nasty buildup of dust on the fan, making it less effective or even under the heatsink on the GPU...there may be a buildup of dust under there as well.
Remove the card (it's really easy) and check it out. |

You're due for an upgrade soon. Make sure you buy one with good cooling features. |

| Yea, it's definitely not new. And, it's clean, I took it out and cleaned it. I can't figure out why this would suddenly happen, after performing well for a long time. |

Is it the weather/room temperature that's affecting it?
I found my stuff getting hotter during the summer, so I buy fans and blow the heat out or at least put the computer somewhere near the air-cond. The computer needs to have a good in-out airflow to keep it from overheating.
Does the video card have a fan? You can always change it to a better one. |

| Yea, the video card has a working fan. The technician came by today and said the video card and motherboard were fried. To replace them he said it would cost about 200k, so thinking about just buying a new computer at Yongsan or something. |
