Hmm, how strange. How long do you have to come up with these themes? It seems like a tough thing to ask anyone to do.
Perhaps I'd think of movies I (and hopefully the students) like and go from there.
Themes for things like: law, crime, prison, relationships, love, infidelity, sports, the future, science fiction, mental or physical illness, discrimination, travel, the past, history, school, teenagers, ......?
might be suitable
I don't know, it's a strange assignment you have. |

in typical kfashion someone in the dept was supposed to spend the entire summer vacation putting together an entire program for the set to open on campus next week "english cafe," but since it's bound to be a flop (our uni students are far too busy), this certain someone decided, today, to give it to me instead.
as if putting together an entire plan isn't bad enough, i've also been given 4 hours a week "duty" in the damn thing.
yeah, it royally sucks to be me this week.
little help, people?

The problem with choosing topics for korean syudents is that virtually every discussion point is loaded with the potential to show up Koreas percieved faults or inadequacies- and you have to tread extremely carefully to avoid triggering any of their cultural taboos. If you accidentally do, you will not hear another word out of them. You must never be seen to be criticising Korea in any way.
thus, its easier to just focus on discussing America with them. |

Are you serious? How long have you been in Korea? Most students, even elementary kids, criticize Korea big time. They might frown on your foreign opinions, but most accept it as normal, |

I agree with this, just always add that this is your personal opinion and not a general truth, that you look thrue "Western eyes" and you do not fully comprehend their "culture".
It makes it easier for them to accept your point of view |
