hi there!
Before I came to Korea, learning pottery was one of the main goals I set up for myself. I had tried to find a pottery teacher in Ichon since -I'm sure you know already-it's the most famous city for pottery in Korea. Unfortunately though, I found out that the master potters there don't usually take on"students" that are not professional. I"m not sure how experienced you are, but finding a good teacher in Ichon who's willing to teach you might be a bit difficult. On the other hand, if you're not a professional potter, I'm sure you can find potters just about anywhere. I remember finding tons of information on the internet. Finding a teacher that can speak and instruct in English might be a bit hard though.. If you let me know where you live or how far you're willing to travel to learn, I can try to find some places for you.
I have been taking pottery lessons in Ansan, kyeongkido, and it's been a blast! My teacher's been so great-he's trying to teach me everything he knows! (you'll find out that a lot of places don't like to teach students too much too fast and soon because they want to have you as a student as long as possible for obvious rea$on$! ) I'm paying about 150000won per month, and I usually go there 4 days a week although he says i can come everyday if i wanted to. The usual fee I think is about 10000/month for twice a week for most places.
I'm actually thinking about buying a used wheel so I can do it at home!
good luck with the search, and let me know if you need help! (tell me your area, and how much time you have for pottery) |
