When I joined Costco, they gave me a gift certificate for 10,000 won.
Now it's renewal time and all they want to give me is one of their cheap plastic shopping bags as a thank you gift.
What's up with that? You'd think that they'd be even more generous to renewing customers because they are the backbone of the store's business.

I recon that when your membership expires, you just apply again for a new card under a fake name and get your 10,000 won coupon. Has anybody tried this?

When I renewed a couple of months ago, it was a choice of bag or hotdog.

I think renewing customers should be treated equally to new customers. All should get the 10,000 won gift coupon. Why do they insult renewing customers by giving them a cheap hotdog or shopping bag for their loyalty. This part of Costco sucks! Evil or Very Mad

My Costco card is from Alberta. When I signed up there, I got squat. When I re-signed up, I still got squat. The third year I re-signed up, I got a bunch of squat, and my fourth year has been some squat with recipies on what to do with my squat.

And YOU feel discriminated against? Sheesh!

Now, the good news is, when I use my Costco card here, The cashier has to yell "MEMBAHHHH" and they have to get a special supervisor to come to the cash register and turn a key and punch in some numbers....all for little ole' me.

So I am getting some payback for all that squat.

Enjoy your free shopping bag...you basta.....never mind.

That was probably a temporary promotion. A few months back Daegu & Daejeon Costcos gave out "free" cards for a week. Customers got 35,000 won in coupons after paying 35,000 won in cash for the card. That was just in Daegu and Daejeon - not Seoul.

I guess they had less people joining in Daegu and Daejeon. And God knows how many times back home I would get pissed at my internet company or phone company, etc when they said new customers got a deal and I couldn't as I already was a customer. Actually, this happens so often back home I hate it.

Absolutely. And because they can't access Canadian memberships-that Cdn membership could even be expired. They just call over a supervisor to bypass the security code when you check out. Do you see what I'm saying here? Laughing

When I renewed, a Dixieland Jazz Band came out and played "When the Saints Go Marching In." Then, I was feted at a champagne brunch followed by a tickertape parade through the store, riding in one of their deluxe carts.

I think you just didn't get the right staffer.
