My class was just cancelled so that students can write about why my school is a good school and why they are proud to be a student from the school. Apparently this was decided at the morning staff meeting. |

It would be worth stopping by later to see what their Hanguel writing is like. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there's clearly no paragraph structure or organisation to most of them whatsoever.
Then, when they can't write in Korean, people wonder why they get to uni and can't write in English?
If they were actually being taught how to write properly in Korean it wouldn't be such a waste of time, but I'm fairly certain that's not the case, and that it's just a matter of the PE teacher giving his homeroom some vague instructions. |

Today my grade 3 MS classes got cancelled so the students could practice for the school singing festival. Since I've also arranged to add an English pop-song contest to the festival this year I took a couple who are competing in that to the multi-sil, hooked up the microphone, and I was music teacher this afternoon instead - probably more productive than trying to do any real classroom teaching the week after exams, at any rate. |

Unbelievable. My hagwon kids come in what seems like almost everyday and say what movie they watched, or how they practised for some play, or what field trip they went on, or what food they cooked and a multitude of other things that just seem like an avoidance of real learning.
Was is the same in Canada? In some ways, but not to the same extent I think...especially in middle school and high school. |

Cooking, field trips and plays are not activities involving "real"learning??? Do you want them tied to their desks all day learning by rote? |

I can imagine the essays they have to write in their normal korean classes. Why dokdo is 우리땅, why kimchi is the king of fermented vegetable side dishes etc. etc. |

If you've noticed an increase in this lately, that's because public school final exams are over and we're just killing time at school these days. |

Will those be going in the class/school book/magazine. I was asked to write a a page myself for the school magazine by Friday. I'm wondering what to put in it |
