Hello,

I worked in Taiwan for three years before coming to Korea. I have only been here a short time but I miss my girlfriend, a Filipina caregiver working in Taiwan, and I would like to bring her over. We have talked about marriage before and I would be willing to marry her if necessary, and intend to marry her in the future. However, I can get no clear answer from anyone on this. No one seems to know or care to look into it for me.

The possible ways as I see it:

1. Marry her and get her on a spousal visa (though I don't know if we have to marry there or if we can marry here; and then does it have to be registered in Canada; and if so how long does that take?)
2. Bring her in on a tourist visa and pay the cost of sending her in and out of the country every month or few months (but can a Filipino get a tourist visa? what are the requirements? how long?)
3. Get her a job (complicated I am sure)

Please help

Taiwantroll

Marry her... or put up W50,000,000 to Immigration to get the 'little brown girl' into the ROK (get a reciept). Wink

Seriously though - get off your a*s and go to the Immigration website - don't believe anything posted here. Razz

Do you have a link. I have found no reliable information on the immigration website. Nothing on spousal visas of any kind.

cruisemonkey gave the best advice ever.

good luck with the filipina for taiwantroll. i've also heard a spousal visa is sufficient.. but the website would really give out all the options.

I brought my wife here on a tourist visa before we married. She is Indonesian and I think they are in the same boat as Filippinas visa-wise. She had to have proof of funds (around Australian $6000), a letter of sponsorship from me and supporting documents from my employer. This was all for a one month visa. When/if you marry her, the F3 dependant spouse visa is a walk in the park.

yay! filipinos can get tourist visas to korea Smile

anyway, she could come here as a tourist... she should apply at the korean embassy and bring her ITR (tax return), certificate of employment (if employed), certificate of bank deposit, letter of invitation from you (better notarized)... the embassy only accepts applications in the morning, so she should be there very early (like 7 AM)... one caveat though, if she gets rejected she'll have to wait 6 months before she can apply again... once she's here, she can apply for an extension of her visa until three months...

btw, if you're planning to marry tell her to go to CFO (http://www.cfo.gov.ph/counseling.htm)... also, if you marry here in korea she'll have to get a certificate of singleness from the philippine embassy (in itaewon)... she'll need to present her authenticated birth certificate, CENOMAR (certificate of no marriage from the NSO), affidavit of singleness from her parents and from her local barangay office... and lastly, if she's younger than 25 she has to get a parental consent (i think she can get this from her city hall)...

you can also go to the philippines and get married there... you'll need at least three weeks... first, get a certificate of eligibility to marry from the canadian embassy in the philippines... then go to her city hall and apply for a marriage license... it takes 10 days to process the license and you'll need to attend a seminar... after getting your license, you're now free to get married Smile

good luck!

I will say "good luck"~!

I had hell to pay when I tried to bring my ex-wife to Korea. When I trid to apply for her dependent visa.
Please keep in mind that there was also a TV show that told about Americans (particularly GIs') and other foreigners bringing philippinos into Korea under the pretense of marriage only to sell them to nightclubs here.
When I even went to apply, they even said in Korean right in front of me that "the only reason this waegook wants to bring the chinese woman is to sell her to the nightclubs like a philippina woman..." Which was very offensive, especially coming from an immigration officer...

If you are married, it is NO problem to get an F3 family visa for her.

The process takes about 8-10 days from start to end.

If you get married first:

Take a copy of your wedding certificate, copy of HER passport info page, your ARC and a letter that confirms your employment to the immigration office. Apply for the letter of visa confirmation. It takes about 4-5 days to process.

When you get the number, e-mail it to her. She takes the number, US$50 or local currency equivalent, 2 passport type photos, her passport and signed visa application to the local Korean embassy to get her visa. This takes 2-4 days.

If she is in the Phils, she will need to attend a CFO seminar before she will be allowed to depart the country.

If you are NOT married it is very difficult but not impossible to get here here on a C3 or G1 visa. You can marry her here and then apply for a "change in status of sojourn" to go from her entry visa to a F3 residence visa.

Betchay gave the best response and most accurate. Follow exactly what he said. I brought my sister-in-law to korea as a tourist and she had to have all the things Betchay listed done. I doubt you can get a tourist visa for her if you are not married yet. A friend tried to bring his girlfriend over and they denied her visa. Good luck and dont let anything stop you.

Good luck to you Taiwantroll.

I read that too.. and was equally irritated with a good reason.

From my girlfriend's friends.. (they are all Filipinas).. I saw her hometown friends who played in a band.. they were 7 women.. they played all over the Philippines.. they had a contract in Japan where they played for 6 months. I saw them in the Philippines myself a couple times. Then their manager was approached by a KOREAN MAN. The Korean man saw them perform in the Philippines.. and he signed them up with a contract to play in Korea.. they practiced Korean songs to put into their already extensive set list as well. Guess what happens? He places them in a Songtan/Osan go-go bar! Rolling Eyes

Some Korean asshole signs up 7 in one setting.. but some TV show in Korea is talking about how some 'American' might marry one down there and sell her into it.. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Very helpful. Thanks.

But has anyone had experience with getting a spousal visa with a marriage certificate from a foreign country (that is, a country to which neither you or your spouse has citizenship)? Or will they require me to register with my embassy. Cause that could take a long time.

Thanks,
Taiwantroll
