There is a nasty breakout of pink eye at my school. They're sending infected students to the study room. Not home and away from people they could infect. My vice-principal told me to wash my hands frequently. Yeah, that's a great idea with no anti-bacterial soap and no hot water. About 25-30 students have it now. Can't wait to see what's going to happen in the next few days.

And then after school they'll probably all get shipped out to hogwans so they can spread it all over town.

There was a breakout last September I think.

Get some medicated eyedrops off your school nurse or from a pharmacy.

Looks painful.....

yup my school has a breakout too. They just make the kids sit at the back during classtime, but during breaks they rough house with eachother as per usual!

One of the big problems is the common hand towel lot of schools use in washroom. When you wash your hands, you really need to scrub for much much longer than we typically do to kill bacteria and remove viruses. The problem is compounded then with the hand towels where people are just transferring a lot of germs and viruses. Anti bacterial soap may not do a hill of good against pink eye as pink eye is a symptom of a virus sometimes.

In fact, antibacterial soap may well be just a scam. All soap is antibacterial. It dissolves the cell walls. A report I read antibacterial soaps don't really have enough of the triclosan to really kill bacteria given the amount of time people spend hand washing.

A few years ago, pink eye made the rounds at my hogwon, and one of the teachers got pink eye in both eyes.

He was sent home

to get his sunglasses so as not to upset the students.

There was a huge breakout amongst the 11th graders at my school last year. They all pretty much rubbed each others eyes and then rubbed their own on purpose. Only about 10 of the orginal 30 in the class were present at school during the "break out" and several of those got sent home sometime during the day because their eyes started getting itchy.

Silly kids.

Yeah, now they all have "the eye disease". I was making fun of some students in the staffroom on Friday. I was rubbing my eyes and then saying, "Look, eye disease!" I think the kids got the point that I thought they were full of crap.
