At some point in our lives we've had/will have some special girl or guy while living/having lived here on the peninsula.

Having only dated a couple K girls in my 3+ years here, I'd have to say that a simple night out in the countryside stargazing whilst holding hands would be the extent of my creativity on the topic.

Please post your ideas, both completed and envisioned, and keep them relative to Korea. This thread is intended to help those who need help in this department.

Some of my ideas, based on experience:

- Seoul Tower
- Han River boat cruise
- Yeuido: Sixty Three Bldg, tandem bike rentals in the park, and peddle boats for rent in the river
- Once In A Blue Moon (jazz bar) in Apgujeong. Especially on Friday and Saturday nights, when they have live music (warning: not for the cheap or frugal)
- DVD room or an invitation to your place for a movie (make sure it's something she's already seen so she won't mind being "interrupted")
- if your apartment building is tall and you can go on the roof for a nice view, take her up there
- a walk in Jongmyo Royal Shrines
- a trip to Seodaemun Prison Museum (only if she's a card carrying member of the Emperor Hirohito Fan Club)

I would think that for those men who are willing to lay down the cash and have enough class, then it would have night out at one of the balls that the expat societies puts on at the hyatt. Men in tuxedoes who can dance are always a hit! Plus she gets to live out her school girl cinderella thing by wearing a pretty dress and being all made up.

Bonus points if you hire a room at the hyatt to take her back to.

my first date with an ex here was at the zoo, at seoul grand park? i think? now, i have some issues with zoos, if the animals seem unhappy...but it was a great day.

they had this chair lift thing there, that took u from the bottom of the zoo to the top. it was pretty, and initimate. we made jokes about the fallen shoes on the bottom of the hill...coming from the 'wild adjumas' roaming the hills, and whatever...

we still laugh at the bears, who we came across at feeding time. they stand up and clap. maybe that's sorta sad...bears shouldn't do that. but, a date memory is a date memory. me and the ex can still clap and say 'remember the bears?'

then we went for dinner at a really nice place. not super expensive, but nice. western food, small...one of those places you stumble across in some random part of seoul, or need someone to tell you to go to.

oh, and it was piss pouring rain at the start of the date...i actually thought i was gonna drown as we ran to the chair lift thing. one of my best memories from seoul, really.

oh lord..i'm getting maudlin. um, yea..romantic places in seoul are all over. you don't need a lot of cash, i don't think. have a picnic. go to the zoo, go ride the swan boats on the han river. just be nice.

I thought there was an engagement thread here on Dave's at one time but also, if you are married, esp. in Korea or to a Korean, how did you propose or were proposed to?

Motorcycle/Scooter cruises out of the city to small towns for specialty meals. That one has always been a grand slam for me.

Back home I'd say "Let me take you out some time... out back," and then the girl would giggle and say "Oh you!" But they'd stop giggling when I took them out back and they saw the mattress lying there. Then they'd look at me accusatorily and I'd say, "Hey, baby, don't look at me. It was there when I got here," which I don't think really helped my case. Anyways, that's the story of how I met my ex-fiance behind Denny's.

Here I say, "Let me take you out some time... out back," and then we end up going to steak restaurant and I always fill up on that damn bloomin' onion and don't have enough room for the steak.

You could try actually venturing out in public- the friendly waves and hellos shouldn't distract from your date, and even the aggressive stares are cute. If your g/f gets threatened for being with an outsider, she'll stick even closer to you, a bonus right there. The colorful trash and concrete along the river is picturesque, and they usually play cutesy romantic ballads from every nearby loudspeaker to put you in the mood. Go for it.
Be sure to sneak a kiss in quickly before someone comes and reprimands you for a shameless public display: you should get about 3 seconds breathing space before the next person comes by.
