When you're a regular guy speaking Korean, it's just the old lady at the fruit stand telling you you're a genius. But when you're a TV star, you get the full-on 한국말 잘하시네요 in print! |

Thanks for the link- I read the related articles, and there is a photo of him and his mom. She was raised in the US, but I was really, really surprised that she looks like a full blown Korean ajumma!!!! Her hair color was, erm, a bit purplish/mauvish (are those actual words?), and it looked like she was wearing a typical ajumma outfit, complete with a jade necklace. I guess I was expecting his mom to look rather svelte, considering the genes he inherited from her...
I really, really liked the part about how he had to edit the lines in his movie script to make the English sound more natural. har har har ^^ |

| Sounds to me like the Chosun Ilbo wants to marry Daniel Henney. |

Yeah...and...so....what?
Like he's the first foreigner to learn "what is a fiendishly difficult language for foreigners to learn." The article read like any other article about how complex Korean is and how only exceptional people can learn it.
Great journalism, Chosun.

| But no one was happier than Daniels mother when he started working in Korea. "When I came to Korea to appear in the drama, my mother cried. She calls me every day to ask what the weather is like and to ask if I'm acting well. My mother is full of feeling, just like a Korean." He said she plans to come to Korea soon to find her biological parents. Her quest will be televised. |
Sure. What old Korean woman - probably forced out of poverty to give up her baby for adoption - wouldn't want to be Daniel Henney's grandmother right about now? |

But it's true. I punched his mother the other day and she screamed, "ow!" Full of feeling, I tell you.
To hear the Chosun tell it, Koreans have a corner on "feeling" and difficult languages. |

He's just contrasting Korean mothers with mothers from other countries who are heartless robots that raise children soley to harvest their organs. |

I think the article is misleading. It starts out by saying he speaks all these languages, but then later hints that he just memorizes dialogues for acting roles, and is "almost comfortable" with everday Korean.
Fiendishly difficult! I love the word choices they use in these English language Korean papers sometimes. So bizarro. |

| I was on the set when he filmed that part with the japanese businessman. He had a huge section to memorize and he did quite well with it. As for Korean, he seemed to understand most everything that was said on the set. |
