Only a month to go until the little one arrives and was wondering if anyone knows of a reasonably priced clinic in Seoul where I can get a 4D scan of the baby.
Also, can I pick up non-biological washing powder in any supermarket? If so, what's the brand name?
Any help will be great. Thanks. |

What is that, is it an ultrasound? I am not a worrier and take studies with an extreme amount of scepticism at first, but I read that ultrasounds MAY (they said yes, but it's only one study) actually harm the development of children. The reason this is starting to show more is because ultrasounds are not used for medical reasons anymore. Tom Cruise bought his own machine to see his baby everday. I don't believe this study (I will try to find it later) right off, but people used to think running behind DDT trucks was ok too.
Take this how you want to. I'm just trying to be helpful

Yup.

They (web site above), of course, claim it's safe. Although there are some studies which show possible adverse effects from 2D ultrasound. Ultrasound is a valuable diagnostic tool, but I'm not sure I'd want to expose an unborn child to any uneccessary doses. Although the chances of it causing any problems are probably quite slim, to none.
Here's a rather nice article (with footnotes!) about the safety of ultrasound:

In February 2004, the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the following statement:
Persons who promote, sell or lease ultrasound equipment for making keepsake fetal videos should know that FDA views this as an unapproved use of a medical device. In addition, those who subject individuals to ultrasound exposure using a diagnostic ultrasound device (a prescription device) without a physicians order may be in violation of state or local laws or regulations regarding use of a prescription medical device. Sorry OP, I couldn't help any more. You can just thank me for the bump.

I am told that the majority of Korean doctors have state of the art machines that do 3/4d scans. Perhaps you should ask your doc? |

It costs 20,000 where I go. They take both pictures and video in color. We could see what our baby looked like. It is a very awesome thing to see. |

Same here from the Samsung womens hospital in Yeongtong and the Cheil womens clinic in Bundang. Got the pics and vids in color on a CD and it was updated at every appointment. They charged us 10k for the CD service and the scans were part of the prenatal care. |

20,000 is really reasonable - my previous clinic, before I moved to Seoul, was a similar price. The hospital I'm going to deliver at charges 180,000 with insurance! Can't believe it's so expensive. I've asked obgy's near where I live and they don't offer 4D.
Where is the clinic and do you have a phone number for them?
Thanks. |

There is risk in everything. You could get in a car accident on the way to the doctor's office for example. Just do what you can to reasonably reduce risk without making things worse. Ultrasounds have proven to be a great diagnostic tool without the risk of x-rays and doctors believe that using them reduces risk overall.
Will using ultrasound more than necessary to prevent problems, e.g. cool pictures for entertainment or keepsakes, increase the risk? Probably not but I don't know.
Will getting cool pictures from a routine ultrasound exam increase risk? No, as long as the physician is paying attention to pathology and not photography.
Could doctors be prescribing unnecessary ultrasounds to give out cool pictures and make the patients happy? Maybe.
