Anyways, Here is my situation. Im new to private lesson and teaching adults, and I am currently teaching children. I just got a new student. He has a score of 970/990 on the TOEIC exam, and his spoken English is really really advanced. He wants to maintain his English level. Any Ideas on how to do that. I thought maybe reading articles and then discussing about them is okay. Any tips will be useful. thanks |

You could also try giving him an article to read in advance and asking him to go through it, jot down any questions he has, and maybe write a piece giving his opinion on the subject, which you can then go through together during the lesson. |

My suggestion is to focus on academic writing. This is a skill that a lot of students, who speak at a high level, lack. Start him with reading academic papers from his major, chosen discipline, or major interest; and have him write an absract for them. Then move on to the major types of essays and finally finish with a problem/solution paper. It is challenging for both of you but you really will see improvement in a matter of weeks. |
