Everybody saw the news I assume? The crash was on purpose, to try to make as large a dust cloud as possible to gain a few extra measurements during its last few moment of existence.

More good news: it's September 6, which means that tomorrow the moon will be at its closest distance to the Earth this year, so it'll look extra big tomorrow. 357296 km.

And now, here's the Earth and the Moon to scale, with the distance between the two to scale as well. First small, then big.

No no no

This cartoonist/outsider theoretician has it all figured out.

Quote:
Well, most of what the Europeans are giving as reasons for crashing their vehicle on the moon is bogus. (They say theyre going to see the configuration of the dust cloud it makes, and certain reactions.

No, theyre going to seismically record the impact in order to see if the moon is hollow. Even more, they not only suspect its hollow but they suspect it might contain gas or plasma.

Why do they think so?

Because they think they will get an echo.
