When I come to Korea I'd like to be able to work at a school and offer private lessons as well. From what I've read thus far most schools dont really like this. What sort of visa do I want to get in order to be able to "legally" teach students on the side? What sort of school position should I look for? I'm new to the whole visa thing and if anyone can link a good description of what different visa types allow for, that'd be great.
Thanks in advance! |

Unless you are of Korean origin and can qualify for an F-4 or are married to a Korean and can qualify for an F-2, you can't teach private lessons legally.
The best you can do is get an E-2 with an employer that will allow you to attach other employers (ie working permission) and then work a side job or two. But the side jobs have to be for entities that could sponsor an E-2 full time if they wanted to. (Private lessons and very small hakwons won't qualify.) |

The only way you can do that is get married to a Korean. |

I have been here quite a while and know many English teachers.
ALL of them teach privates in their spare time. I think some of
the more vocal posters on this board are the only ones that don't.
Here are some tips:
Current Rates for Privates:
Residential - 50,000W/hr.
Corporate - 100,000W/hr. for the first hour and 50,000W thereafter
Remember:
1/ Never give your real name.
2/ Never give your address.
3/ Never use a recruiter. |

An F visa. Go a fiancee yet? You cant teach visas legally on an E2. its an immigration thing. Not a hagwon thing. Simpel story, privates on an E2 and an E2 is all you are eligable for, are not legal. |

No, why? The typos? Ive stopped caring. Its just Daves. The guy asked for a LEGAL way to teach privates. Yes you can do them illagally, but that wasnt his question, now was it? |

Ya, because of the typos. I have never noticed you having anything like that before, that's why I was asking. I don't care about them at all, and spelling/grammar nazis suck, I was just a little surprised.
Your advice is spot on. |

I always make tons of typos. Look more carefully. Tons of them. So many Ive become desensitized to them. |

Fine advice, but I really wish you would have mentioned the flip side to it. |
